It’s been a few years since I have been to the Glock Armorer Course so someone help me out. Why is the locking block different on a Gen 3 FDE G19 as opposed to the locking block in the Gen 3 G19 with black frame? These are both 3 pin locking blocks.
I recently had to do a teardown and rebuild of a friends G19 and her locking block and trigger pin were broken. While examining it, I noticed that it is different and the one from my FDE one would not interchange.
Interesting. I’ve got a Gen 3 19 that must be 12 years old or so and a FDE from last year. I must take a look and see this.
btw - how does one break a locking block in a 9mm? Immense volume or just a part that went bad?
This hopefully will help you. Depending on how old the Glocks are. Only change I am aware of is the use of MIM locking blocks since about 09. The new ones should work with older Glocks. Got any pics so we can see the differences?

Usually from not replacing the recoil spring assembly. Then the gun gets battered, usually resulting in a broken pin first but sometimes the locking block cracks.
Very interesting thread. I noticed on the photo provided in the link of the various locking blocks that the mim locking block on the right also shows a series of numbers carved into the polymer frame. These are not the serial number on the frame. I’ve noticed these numbers on several Gen 3 Glock frames in resent years, but not on Gen 3 frames from several years ago.
Anyone know what these numbers signify?
I’ve had this happen a few times. For me it is usually not changing out the recoil spring when i should and shooting 124 gr. +p gold.

Then there’s my Gen1 17 and Gen 2 19 that have both seen a boat load of 115 and 124 grain +P+, didn’t get the recoil from springs changed out as often as currently recommended, and still have their original locking blocks & trigger pins. With the pistols chambered in 40 I can understand…
I just checked my Gen 3 19’s and I have both revisions as well. The old style has RGW prefix.
The frame change in the gen3 G19/23/32 is so that the newer gen3 G19/23/32 frames can accept the gen4 locking blocks. More efficient, one less part to manufacture.
I bet they still do runs of the old part though as there are a lot of those guns in service.
