general purpose footwear

I’ve been wearing a pair of Merrell Outland low-cut lightweight hikers for a week now and am quite pleased.

I ordered them directly from Merrell - after some research I found that they pretty much had the cheapest online price for their own product - go figure!

They come in four very nice, low key colors… best of all, “dark earth”!! :stuck_out_tongue:

They do make a waterproof high-cut version of this shoe as well.

Thekatar,

I have about 9 pairs of Merrells and they are my daily wear shoe over here. Summer I wear the Chameleon Stretch II and in winter I wear the Moab or the Chameleon Stretch XCR’s.

+1 on Merrells here two. I have a pair that I wear very often. And after 4 years the soles are a little worn but otherwise they are GTG! Comfortable and I think stylish too.

I wear my Merrells often myself and really like them.
Those Outlands look nice, i’ll check them out.

I wish someone near me had a good selection of Merrells and the like. I have never had good luck doing mail order on shoes.

That’s what I wear and I love them. Light, comfy, durable.

Do you have a Dick’s Sporting Goods near you? That’s where I’ve bought all of my Merrells.

Closest one is 120 miles away. :frowning:

Bass Pro “carries” them, but down here the selection sucks. The whole store down here is geared to saltwater fishing.

ive been thinking about picking up the MOAB’s for a few months now.about the lightest thing i can find with some actual tread.

been on the fence…might go ahead and pick um up.

I have the same problem and the best solution I found was to order from Zappos.com. They offer free shipping both ways so once I find a style of shoe that I like, I order a few pairs - i.e I wear an 11 but I’ll order a 10.5 and an 11.5 as well. I keep the one that fits the best and return the other two pairs on their dime. Maybe not the most ethical way to buy shoes, but it works.

Funny that, I was looking at the Moab low

I agree with altav. I use zappos.com religiously as the free shipping both ways is great for shoes. I usually order a couple sizes then just return the ones that don’t fit. Plus, they have an outdoor section that carries some good outdoor clothing and footwear.

Might have to try that. They have the exact shoe I want for $84. I’m actually going to be in Melbourne next weekend and they have the closest Dick’s so maybe I can check sizing while I’m there.

i prefer new balance

I will tell you that the Merrell’s I bought ran a touch small. Most of my shoes are 9, occasionally I wear a 9.5.

I ordered a 9 and had to send them back for a 9.5. they included a return sticker so I didn’t have to pay return postage.

The shoes from www.merrell.com were $90, which I thought was a very fair price.

a sizing chart would be nice,at least measurements if not a printout.

Sizing: The best starting point for sizing is to reference the customer’s normal shoe size.

hmmm…

“normal”?

im not sure if any of mine are the same size, they range from an 8-1/2 to an 11-1/2 at the extremes.they vary from type/brand and even within the same type/brand.

average would probably be 10 to 10-1/2…sometimes wide.:frowning:

I would recommend checking out Asolo from Sierra Tradining Post. There must be a reason all the special force guys love them.

guess i should have tried the dealer locator before whining.

found a place about 20 minutes away(there isnt much of anything within 20 minutes drive time arround here),that have exactly what im looking for.

Another good one is the Merrell Sawtooth. They are a good balance between lightweight and support. They lasted about 18 months of hardwear.

I’m personally a fan of The North Face and Keen. For sneakers, my North Face Hedgehog GTX XCR are lightweight, very comfortable, breathe well and are waterproof (big + for south FL). For when something a little nicer is called for, my Keen Austin’s do the job - also lightweight and waterproof.
