Gen4 G26 - My hand interferes with the magazine dropping free

I recently acquired a Gen4 Glock 26 and have been practicing a few drills at home. This is my first subcompact pistol aside form my Kahr PM9. I do not have the following issue with my PM9. When trying to drop the magazine for a reload using my right hand thumb (I am right handed), the bottom part of my of my palm (the part closest to the bottom of the magazine) prevents the magazine from dropping out smoothly. This doesn’t happen all the time. Is there any way to get around this? It’s almost like that part of my pal has too much fat and is getting in the way even though I have a pretty average build. 5’10" 165 lbs. Anyone got any advice?

Outside of bevelling the bottom of your palm, there’s not much you can do. Remember that this is a hideout, subcompact defensive gun. So speed reload may not be something that you should dwell on. Try open up your pinky finger during the ejection of the magazine. It may help move your palm off the frame enough to let the magazine drop free. Otherwise, use your support hand to pull the magazine out.

Also, just out of curiosity, does this happen to anyone else?

Sam - Moving the pinky out of the way seems to help a little bit but then pressure transfers over to my middle finder for some reason and prevents me from pushing in the magazine catch. My middle finger prevents the other side of the magazine catch from coming out. Small guns…jeez. But maybe you are right. Maybe I shouldn’t be focusing on speed reloads with this gun.

I would suggest building muscle memory of fanning out the lower half of your hand during reloads.

UNLOAD YOUR GUN (friendly service announcement)

Sit in front of the TV with several magazines and practice going from a shooting grip to dropping the mag while flaring your hand to not interfere with the magazine. Repeat this 500-1000 times, problem solved…

pretty normal… just have to pretend you’re drinking tea at a fancy party and get that pinky out.

on the upside the lower part of your hand will help guide the new mag into the well.

Get the +2 magazines.

Allright. This makes me worry a bit less. I thought it was something I was doing wrong while having to shift my grip a tiny bit to release the magazine. Thanks for the help guys.

Had the problem with my g-27. Then as Eye Gor would say I’M Abby Normal 6’-4" 250# and have to stretch extra large gloves to wear them. I do not have the same problem with a 1911, BHP of G19

A Glock 19 will fix that

Alpha Sierra - That will be my next pistol  Already got a 17 and a 26 now just need a 19. I love Glocks. I recently tried an M&P pistol and am thinking of trying that out once my Glock collection is complete.

You’ll come back to Glocks.

I found the same thing with my '27. I went back and reviewed my Dynamic Handgun DVD, so I have begun to rotate the gun vertically in my “workspace”. It allows me to easily pull the bottom of my hand away from the gun by way of my pinky. I put the magpul speedplates on the mags, it helps to reload with an extra 1/2 inch of space.

Let me throw out what I use on my G27 mags. I detest the extensions, and plus 1’s and 2’s. These add zero in the overall grip length.

I found these. Make weapon draw and retention “feel” much better. They really shine on reloads, IE drawing from mag pouches, etc.

GAP Floorplates. There are tons of threads around the web on them so I won’t bore you with anymore info, other than to at least check them out. I could never go back to regular plates.
