Gen3 or gen4 -glock19

So of u that has owned both ; which one is better? Should I go with the g3 or g4 in your opinions that has put alot of ammo through both, thank u all for your time.

I think it depends on how each fits in your hands… I love both my Gen 3 G19 RTF2 and my Gen 4 G19. There is a noticeable size difference in grip between the two. Both of mine have been flawless but I have way more rounds through my Gen 3. I do not notice a difference in recoil or accuracy. My Gen 4 has an 04 Spring so that may be the reason for the lack of difference in recoil.

IMO both are very serviceable handguns… I cannot say that one is better than the other, I can only say they are slightly different… Hold both and choose the one that feels better to you… I will be very interested to see the responses from others on the forum.

Im also looking to buy a 19, and would like to know which one is better at this point. Ive heard the gen 4 issues are in the past and are “solved” now but does this mean it is better then the gen 3 now?

Gen 3. The GEN4’s are still showing issues.

I like the looks of the Gen 3 and don’t think that the adjustable backstraps are necessary at least to me. I would go Gen 3.

Gen 3 has a better track record.

I haven’t bought any of the Gen4 Glocks yet but I know enough of the guys here on this site that have them and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one based on their feedback.

Yes the Gen3s are the standard but there are dozens of guys here that are running them with great success.

If you’re in the market for a new G19 and you feel the backstraps and larger mag release are features you want then get a Gen4.

I just went for the Gen4 G19 - the fit makes a difference to me (the difference between wanting to buy a G19 or not) and I’m not worried about having to sort it out should I need to change springs etc…which I doubt I will.

I like my Gen4.

I like my g19 gen 4 too. 650 rounds so far and 0 issue. and I love my mp9 too…smoother for me…

Here we’ve got 11.5K troublefree rounds through two Gen 4 17s and two Gen 4 19s so we like them plenty.

I’ve also got a Gen 2 and Gen 3 G19 with a lot rounds through them and I prefer the Gen 4 hands down. BUT, having now just run 700 rds through a Gen 3 RTF2 G17, I think the choice between the RTF2 G19 and Gen 4 might be tough. I really like the RTF2 treatment. RTF2 G19s are not so easy to find nowadays however.

Note- I think most shooters will prefer to put a “-” connector in their Gen 4 to get a trigger pull weight close to just under what a Gen 3 has stock with a 5.5 connector.

The mag release of the Gen 4 spoiled me fast and I will have to soon re-fit my Gen 3’s with the Vickers mag release.

Gen 4, I have both and if it wasn’t for the excellent stipple job by ben at boresight, I would have sold the Gen 3.

I’ve owned both, I currently have just the 3rd Gen. I STRONGLY prefer the reduced grip size of the Gen4, and the new grip finish. Unfortunately, for me, these weren’t outweighed by a significantly heavier trigger pull, and some reliability issues which just robbed me of my confidence in the Gen4’s suitability for duty carry.

I still like the idea of the Gen4, and will almost certainly end up trying them again in the future, but, for now, I’ll stick with 3rd Gen 9mms.

Of course, if the rumor I heard from Glock at SHOT comes to fruition - a “Gen3.5” 9mm mating the Gen4’s grip to the 3rd Gen upper, I’ll be at the head of the line to get one…

Regards,

Kevin

I’ve had both. I like my Gen4 much better.

Did not have a positive experience with the Gen4 (repeated FTEs) and ended up returning it for a Gen3, but I seem to be in the minority. Seems like most people have not had issues or those issues have been fixed via the newer recoil springs.

If I buy another G19, though, it’ll probably be a Gen3 as there was nothing about the Gen4 that really blew me away when compared with the Gen3.

Your not alone. A well known firearms instructor has been a seeing a lot of problems with them. So much so that he had a little “come Jesus” meeting with Glock at shot show. This person also returned his Gen 4 G19 (as it was unreliable) for a Gen3 G19 RTF2 with straight serrations.

And I will be right behind you! I would love to see Glock release this.

thanks everyone who helped me with my decision; you guys are great. g3

Come on now Grant, don’t leave us brothers hanging. Which instructor and do you have any details as to Glocks reaction? Is this maybe something our favorite instructor who’s first initial is ‘L’ and last initial ‘V’ with an ‘A’ thrown in there somewhere might have done…?

To the OP, I have owned both the gen4 17 and 19. I am currently running a gen3 19 RTF2 while on patrol and carrying the same pistol while off duty. Gen4’s were sold and I don’t miss them.
