Geissele G2S vs. SSA ??? Anything that really constitutes the extra cost?

So I have decided to just go all out and get a Geissele trigger for my new build (16" BMC upper W/ 13" MKR, BCM BCG, Gunfighter Mod4, MBUS Pro Irons, Spikes lower W/ Spikes LPK, buffer tube & Spring kit with T2 buffer, Magpul furniture, etc.)

And I have decided on the G2S for $165 (OOS at PA for 140)

But I found an SSA trigger for $185 shipped as well online

So, I am trying to find something that would justify the extra $20 for the SSA over the G2S

All I found was this info on the G2S stating the differences … “The G2S is made with the same tool steel as the SSA and the sears are also wire edm’ed. The main differences with the SSA are a different way of holding the hammer pin in, different pins, no laser marking and only spot MP check. Visually, from the outside of the gun there is no difference from the SSA and the feel and reliability is the same.”

So I am not sure if anything here really justifies the price difference … If I could get the G2S from PA for $140 then I would buy that regardless but since I can only find it for $165 but I can get the SSA for an extra 20 bucks that’s the only reason I am thinking about it and wanted your advice.

Thanks so much for the help on everything and I look forward to your replies on these two triggers and how they differ and if it;s worth the extra cash!

Did a search for these vs. each other and just found this thread … not much here … https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?100831-Geissele-GS2-vs-SSA

How many rounds do you have through your rifle?

Zero … this is a brand new build

Upper is in the mail and lower parts are being ordered along with a stripped lower being DROS’ed soon at my local shop.

The rifle will be a virgin all the way around.

I think I’d pay the extra $20 for the SSA just so I wouldn’t have to deal with the cir-clips used to hold the pins of the G2S in place

I agree, I’d get the SSA over the G2S.

I have 5 SSA’s and a G2S - I see no reason to buy the SSA other than the aforementioned convenience factor for installation/assembly. That said, I’d still go used if you can: there are a LOT of used great shape SSA’s and G2S triggers out there (and they’re such good triggers that I don’t care how used they are unless the round count is north of 5 figures) simple because guys have tried the SSA/G2S, loved it, then made the mistake of trying an SSA-E/G2S-E/SD-C/etc. and found those to their liking, so if you’re a bit patient you can pick up one of those shipped for less than you’re talking about right now.

I happen to prefer the SSA over the SSA-E for all my carbines but my precision ones (hence 5/2 distribution of those), so I would still recommend the SSA/G2S as the trigger of choice unless it’s a precision rifle.

As far as the cost difference - if it means you’re NOT running an ST-2 buffer, then get the cheaper one on that justification alone. Get an H or H2, you’ll thank me later.

I just put a dab of grease where the circlip goes and it installs just like a normal hammer.

Ya a member here (Zane1844) hooked me up with an H buffer and my new lower will come with a T2 from spikes so I’m covered on both buffers.

I’m gonna go ahead and get the SSA I think … Now I’m trying to figure out if the SSA-E is something I should consider

I have both the SSA and SSA-E. The SAA-E is great for a precision rifle but the SSA is better for a general purposes and nearly as good for precision work

I’m running an SD-E on my DD M4V7 and also on my 10.3"er…and I LOVE EM!!!

Ya that SD-E looks awesome

I had a great member here who had a G2S and was planning on selling it hit me up via PM and I’m going to buy his

So that will be my new trigger.

Again, thanks for all the help guys and bearing with all my threads and questions over the last week.

If this is your second carbine, and you decide that the -E is what you want on the more precision oriented upper, that the G2S can move to that other carbine… the other advantage of buying used on something that holds value like BG’s triggers is that at absolute worst, you’re out the cost of shipping it twice if it’s not the one you want.

Thanks…yeah I just kept watching in here and eventually I bought bith, slightly used for a great price.

You’re gonna love it!

Ya this is my second … Great deal from a great member here for the G2S

And you know if I decide I want to go more precision, lighter trigger, etc. etc. … I can always move that over the the M&P15 (though I may be selling it to my brother in law to get him started in AR’s and have another shooting partner) or easily pass on the savings that I got on this trigger to another member as well and not lose out on any money but shipping like you said.

From what I’ve been told this G2S should be perfect for my needs and coming from a stock basic milspec trigger it should be a treat to pull!

Thanks again guys.

SSA on both my ARs and have never looked back.

Having an ssa-e my next will be an ssa. Fantastic trigger, but if your goal/use is a fighting type/truck gun, I would recommend standard and not enhanced. The enhanced will work and work well, its just that it is on the light side of things.

From Geissele regarding the difference between the G2S and SSA:

The Geissele 2 Stage (G2S) was designed to be a high quality, cost effective option of the SSA. The G2S is a 4.5lb. non-adjustable combat trigger that is a precision two-stage trigger and allows precise and accurate trigger control. The G2S is manufactured from the same tool steel as the SSA. Visually, from the outside of the weapon there is no difference from the SSA and the feel and reliability is the same. The G2S however has a different way of holding the hammer pin in place, there is no laser markings, and the parts are only spot checked for MP.

I bought a pair of G2S’s when AIM was running them for $110/ea. The circlip didn’t present any real install challenge for me.

Glad I went with the G2S … but the smokin deal I got really was the main reason!

Should be great regardless.

Again guys, Thanks for all the info and help.

In my guns: SSA, SSA-E, G2S (two), B-G2S-E (Brownell’s specific one here: http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/triggers-parts/triggers/b-g2s-e-geissele-2-stage-enhanced-trigger-sku100014358-67223-138461.aspx )

Like many have mentioned thus far in the thread, there is absolutely no difference (as far as my finger can tell) between the SS and G2 series – other than the obvious differences in installation. If you can follow simple directions and install the trigger properly, there’s really no must-have reason to get the SS- series over the G2- (in these 2 particular models)
