If you watched the video at all, and payed any attention, they even say they will “post the whole breakdown on Gear Scout next week”…
Don’t you mean FTW? lol
I did, but I misunderstood Sticks reply and thought that the info was already posted.
No worries.
For everyone else; Gear Scout website is here: http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/
Too bad they didn’t test out fixed stocks like the A1, A2, stubby and sully stocks also.
Well, since I had to have the volume down so I could barely hear it so as to not annoy the wife, I clearly missed that little tidbit.
Thank you, I will watch it again when I can listen better.
All stocks can break. The RE is the critical part because the gun can keep going and still be fired from the shoulder if that part is intact.
Buttstock Bashfest article is now up. Sorry for the suspense. SHOT Show was a bit of a distraction.
Outstanding writeup…great pics, great data on each stock, and great results gathered.
Did I mention that the UBR is my longtime favorite buttstock;)
Funny, I actually just read that article on your site before I found this thread. I came across it after doing a Google image search for the Magpul STR.
I am more than pleased to find that the STR came in overall 2nd place!
Well… My battle axe didn’t do as well as I would have thought. Mine sure seems solid.
I’d like to see them do it again with the buttstocks fully collapsed and include the sully, stubby, A1, and A2 stocks in the testing.
Most people I know run stocks like the sopmod and ACS fully closed.
Good to know the sopmods can take some serious punishment.
You misunderstand.
The VLTOR was tied for last last place, not even 2nd to last…
It would be nice to do the testing a bunch of different ways, but no matter how many Rob or I did, people would still claim it was unfair, unrealistic, or that more should be done.
I look at this as a solid baseline, not the sole determining factor of stock selection. ![]()
Agreed, awesome test.
Not real thrilled with Vltors comments either. Seemed canned, pointless, and wag the dog. Kind of like a politician.
I sense a Magpul in my future.
Thanks for the link. Typing ‘buttstock bashfest’ into google may have had disastrous results.
It weighs as much as a whole gun… it had better do well. ![]()
I wouldn’t sweat it unless you run your stock all the way out. Tests done on Vltor stocks dropped from the fully collapsed position have always shown they are tanks and prevent buffer tube damage.
I’m tempted to type it in now… That’s pretty funny.
I just got a B5 SOPMOD stock yesterday. Decent so far but needed some serious contouring on the front edges.
The UBR better do well. The real problem there is if you break the stock itself it’s not as easy to just slip another stock on, you need to replace the entire RE.
EDIT - After watching that video, the UBR should be pretty hard to break.
I wouldn’t feel bad about a Vltor stock…I’m positive that they are tough enough and I actually plan to buy an IMOD soon.
But I’d like to point out that most people don’t use their stocks fully collapsed for a lot of reasons. To me, it’s sort of like quoting battery life, with the light/optic OFF.
