Another fan of Kary’s work? Good dude and good product.
T24 has a good solution. I think we over look wether we want to be gunfighting naked / in boxers or not.
If that’s not an issue - I really like a 2" riggers belt with a Velcro inner liner to keep the gear in place. Just grab it and click the Cobra buckle. I’ve found I prefer this set up to traditional MOLLE belts. With a good 2" belt and liner - it’s PLENTY rigid to carry just about anything. In fact, stepping on the belt while barefoot at night can be a painful experience. These things will not double over easily.
for a bump in the night, my plan is using my “first line” belt that holds my holster, 2 AR mags, three pistol mags, small IFAK, spare handheld light and a small fixed blade knife.
I keep it buckled and hanging over the top of my closet door and can just throw it over my head and shoulder bandolier-style, very quick… if it works out that I have time, it’s a simple matter of sticking the other arm through and letting it drop to my hips.
while I’d use this for home defense and even if I had to go outside on my own property, it is in no way “concealable” in public.
in the “Katrina” scenario, I might opt for a very low profile split front chest rig with 3 or 4 AR mags, etc., that I could easily cover with a jacket/windbreaker, to supplement my CCW rig of IWB holster and two spare belt mags.
I’m not worried, I’m sure it will be well worth the wait. Thanks for the compliments of the set up. I just wanted something simple. This way I just have to remember to put my shorts on and I dont have to worry if I have my pistol, extra magazines, flash light, etc. When the belt clicks into place I’m ready to go.
What belt is that?? That looks fairly comfortable! How does it stay in position? It seems like in some situations you’d find it higher up on your stomach rather your waist or getting turned around.
It is a battle belt made by Condor. You can get padded battle belts from a variety of companies, but I went with this one because it was more in my price range. The total cost for the complete setup (2 belts, 3 AR mag pouches, 3 pistol mag pouches, flashlight pouch, dump pouch, and molle serpa holster adapter) was only $107. It may not be as “high quality” as some other rigs out there, but I have worn it through multiple classes and run it pretty hard, and it has been great with no issues or signs of wear. The following are the parts that I’ve combined for this setup:
In Katrina, NOPD confiscated firearms from law abiding citizens in their homes. Sometimes there is a little confusion with the question of who the real threat is. I just can’t see walking around in full kit after a “disaster”.
For everyday, next to my bed is a Remington 870P with Surefire light forend, a 4 round side saddle, and a Maxpedition Fatboy (over the shoulder bag) with 50 extra 00 LE shells and a few boxes of slugs in the smaller compartment. I can don my “rig” and be down the hall in short order. May look silly in my boxers with a shoulder bag and a shotgun, but hey, it works.
ETA: I do have a “battle belt”, but I use it for classes that to me are fun, but would not be my grab and go rig. If the world were actually ending I would wear it around and would be a bad ass, but in my house, it’s the 870 and the Fat Boy.
I suppose this could go by the bed. It’s an ATS War Belt, but again, I consider this my training for fun rig. It wouldnt look any sillier with boxers than the Fat Boy though.
Have you tried that H-harness for it? Thanks for the info. I used to use Condor when I was younger an into airsofting (yeah I’m not that old). I never had any issue with them really, and still have some of it. Not that I’d would use it as duty equipment or something.
I have heard others recommending something similar to this set-up, but a bit simpler, the Eagle Patrol Bandoleer. While I like the capacity of the US Peacekeeper bag, it is designed for right handed folks where the Eagle bandoleer seems to be ambidextrous.
I did try the H-harness for it, but I personally didn’t like the feel of it with the harness on. The belt feels great and rides great on it’s own so I don’t use the harness.
As for duty use etc., I’m not LEO or MIL so this gear suits my purposes just fine, and the gear has seemed to hold up great through multiple classes and other drills. I have a buddy who had the same belt rig setup from another company and he paid over $250 for his. I used the extra $150 I saved on this setup and put it into ammo. If you want to get a belt for duty use, there are some other great manufacturers out there who have “higher quality” stuff. A few that come to mind are Grunt Gear or VTAC Brokos belts.
I have a belt like you’re referring to for my AR. That would be for the “katrina like” situation.
For home defense, that would be too slow. I keep my Glock with a mag inside and a flashlight next to it. I personally don’t keep a round chambered because I find it easier to rack the slide than remove it from a loose holster.
Seems a belt for home defense is counter-productive.
My HD setup is a lot different than any other setup I have.
For HD I have a pistol and light in a safe under nightstand. Close by in the closet is my LE gear and a 12g up top. If someone is in my house I doubt I would waste time putting on a rig or belt. I would consider a Katrina type situation totally different with a different needs.
