Gas Block

I have a BCM EAG rifle. I am going to remove my front sight and need a new gas block. I have never bought a after market gas block so I am looking for input on the best option for a gas block. I need something that is totally secure (I know the claps can move on you)and reliable, this rifle is my patrol rifle. Low profile is preferred to avoid anything can snag. Hope you guys have some input for me, I look forward to reading what people have to say.

The most cost effective and most solid option is to just shave down your FSB.

I have to say that the finest front sight you can have is what you already have. What is your reasoning for removing the front sight?

I have to remove it to stay inline with my department SOPS we are going to flip up front sights.

Stupid, but if that’s what you have to do, that’s what you have to do. Are you keeping the rail that’s on it, or switch? Second question, do you have a pinned and welded flash hider? Those rifle came stock with a pinned flash hider, so you are stuck when it comes to removing the front sight base if yours is pinned. In this case, click the orange search button and search for “shaved FSB”.

The barrel is a after marking BCM it has a battlecomp 2.0 so its only pinned so I can remove it. I will look into the shaving if that work Ill stick with that.

Shave it. Having a pinned gas block is a good thing.

Weird policy. I thought you were doing it to get a longer rail. Do a bit of searching around here. IIRC, There was a thread a while back discussing the shaving down of the fsb while mounted on the barrel. You might want to look into doing that since you have a pinned comp.

Shaving one on the barrel is easy. The only one I’ve done was with a 4.5" grinder and cutoff wheel. Cleaned it up with a stationary belt sander. Most recommend a dremel with cutoff wheels, followed with a dremel sanding drum.

That is a strangely unique policy. Can you pm me your Department. Id love to see that policy. Are red dots or similar optics approved or required?

Our policy tried to keep factory installed as a prime objective. Our chief (hoplophobe) still does not approve optics of any style. He thinks we will all start thinking we ate snipers:rolleyes:

Any department that mandates that I have to wonder about who is pulling the strings. A fixed front sight base is not only the most accurate but the most secure as far as abuse and longevity are concerned.

I’m with Iraqgunz on this one… I read the bit about departmental policy changes and went…

Huh???

What brand flip up front sights are they pushing?

I would be interested in seeing the sanitized version of the department’s weapon SOP. This whole thing smells a little odd to me.

My advice is to keep your BCM upper as it is, and even though it will be tough, look for a different upper or the parts to build one to comply.

I have to chime in with all above.
It is rare, if not unheard of to have a department mandate a “non-fixed” option, much less a non-factory option. I virtually had to get an act of congress to get a DD factory installed, rail mounted, fixed front sight on their LE specific package.
Modifying a factory weapon in any way just adds fuel to that fire. Even “drop in” alterations are often off-limits to all but those departments with the most progressive policies.

That’s the most fucktarded thing I’ve ever heard. WTF???

The SOP is in place if you are using your own rifle. My department provides a department issued rifle which come with flip up sights and aimpoints. The choice to use your own rifle is there but you are required to make changes to your personal rifle so all patrol rifles are pretty much similar equipment wise. So really this is a personal choice since I could stick with my department issued rifle, I just prefer a mid length gas system.

I see the logic… but flip ups are such a poor alternative to a real FSB.

I guess… on the bright side… you’re department has a patrol rifle program at all.

I didn’t even think of doing that. Might be the best option since I wasn’t a fan of tearing apart such a nice rifle to start with. In this political climate though finding any rifle parts that dont have inflated prices is near impossible. Guess time is on my side though.
