Gas block for SBR build: which adjustable? Piston conversion?

The adjustable gas block is all you need. The gas block is limiting the gas already. Get a good quality BCM, LMT, Colt, DD, etc, BCG and call it a day.

If your using the PDW stock system it uses their proprietary BCG. I would suggest an A5 system with good known quality BCG like mentioned in post above.

I would like to hear people’s reasons for spending on higher quality BCGs. My experience with BCGs has been the following;

1- Bad experience returned. AB arms carrier. Had a lot of malfunctions. Replaced the carrier with a PSA NiB And it worked perfectly.
2- PSA NiB BCG- cost me $100, had no issues at all.
3- SSA $88 7.62x39 BCG for a 6.5 Grendel. Again works perfectly.
4- no name no frills BCG, came with an upper. Worked just fine.

I know a lot of people spend big money on BCGs and I am curious as to why? In my opinion it either works or it does not. I agree the NiB And other coated ones are easier to clean but that’s about it. Having never used a high end BCG I would like to hear what the value add is. For the build I am working on I am thinking about getting a low mass BCG Because I want something lightweight so the decision I am facing is buy the cheapest lightweight BCG I can find or is it worthwhile to invest a little more. Sorry if this is going off topic…

The PDW system I am using has a proprietary buffer system but not BCG. It takes any mil spec BCG

If you buy a BCG from a respected company you’re paying for the assurance that the materials are what they say they are, the heat treatment/coatings are done correctly, and it’s gone through the proper QC/tests.

This isn’t to say that expensive bolt groups don’t fail, but for people who put a lot of wear and really high round counts through their rifles, an extra $50 for a known good brand BCG is nothing when you consider the big picture.

Now if you’re referring to something like the ultra expensive boomfab titane carrier…well…it’s your money, spend it how you please. :slight_smile:

Haha yes, I did just look at the boomfab and was trying to figure out why… You have it right, it’s your money spend it as you please.

Exactly. Piston systems are problematic enough without the Short barrel and Suppressor even factored in. Forget that ass ache.
