Gander Mountain unsafe practice

Went by GM a few days ago. They have all their long guns available to anyone who wants to pick it up without supervision. The guns are attached via some kind of lanyard cord and a trigger block. Almost 1 out of 3 guns I picked up the trigger block was loose and I actually was able to pull the trigger. All it would take is some nut job to put a round in the chamber cock it and let the next person have a ND. I think I am going to call the owner of GM and let him know.

Oh, thank you for looking out for everyone. That’s DEFINITELY a hazard and it’s great to see a fellow human being that looks for every possible way someone could hurt themselves and others. Even more props for telling everyone on the internet boards here before calling it in. Of course, people who probably would have never even thought of putting live ammunition in rack guns now know it’s possible (at your local Gander Mountain anyway), but that’s a necessary evil. As long as you did your part to society by reporting it, you can rest peacefully.

Also, those handguns they sell are a danger too and should be completely banned, but I digress. Even though they don’t have a trigger lock, a live round (or magazine) could be inserted after the attendant hands the gun to the customer. However, those long rifles that are tethered AND locked (albeit loosely) are MUCH more dangerous.

Again, thank you for looking into this situation. It’s completely unacceptable that someone could leave a loose lock over a trigger action. I work 6 hours a day and am very socially active, so while I enjoy firearms, I have no time (or need) to teach my kids about correct firearm safety. I’m too busy working with the local habitat for humanity and I’m a phone volunteer for our local community watch group. I have many friends who themselves haven’t learned firearm safety and handling either, and therefore their precious lives rely on those trigger locks EVERY TIME they walk into the door of Gander Mountain. There’s no logic whatsoever as to why we should put a human’s life in the hands of someone else!!! Only the government has that power!!!

Thank you for being a good citizen.

Everyone lighten up a bit.

OP is well intentioned.

I’m sure the OP is well intentioned, but its such a non-issue.

Its like expressing outrage that your local gas station sells gasoline and matches.

The Gander by my house once had a long gun that was untethered to the rack. Oh, yes, trigger exposed and everything. I politely told the nearest clerk, and he thanked me for noticing. Took care of it right away; much faster than going home to post on the topic, then playing phone tag with the owner.

No personal attack intended, but stop being a twatwaffle.

Never heard that before…LOL.

I asked my wife if she had, and she has heard it. I guess I’m behind the times.

Good stuff.

What the heck is that?
