Hi everyone. I just got my first handgun (glock 19) and am getting my concealed carry permit. I have been shooting for a long time, but dont have much experience with holsters or ccw holsters. Ive read what a lot of you have to say about all the different brands and a lot of people say that you need to try different types to tell what YOU like. Since im in a small city there isnt a lot of options to try stuff out, so i need to buy a few and go from there. In saying that im not looking to spend a whole lot untill i know what i want whether that is leather or kydex or what else. Right now im looking at a IWB in leather. My thinking is that it might be a little more comfortable for the everyday carry and might not show as much. I am a pretty small guy. I found a Don Hume H715-M W.C. for $30. Has anyone heard of them or have experience with them, if so what do you think. If not do you have another recommend another holster, preferably on the cheaper side around 50 or under. Like I said im in the trying stage this is not ment to be my final holster purchase.
Check out Raven Concealment, I have one for my HK P7 and it is G2G IMO.
Try a Comp-Tac MTAC. It’s comfortable, built well, adjustable and you can buy additional holster bodies for it down the road if you expand your carry gun selection. I’ve been using one for years and I could not be happier. Raven Concealment is also a top notch product and I’ve run mine through the wringer with no issues. You can’t go wrong with either of these selections.
My personal opinion is that you need a quality OWB holster… leather or kydex or both they aren’t that expensive and a MTAC for a Glock 19…
After that you can order the custom rigs that you like, but the above will give you a great idea of what will work for you.

+1 on the Raven Concealment (OWB) and Comp-Tac (IWB). You might also want to look at Crossbreed Holsters. If time is an issue for you, Comp-Tac currently has the least amount of wait time. Congratulations on the new g19!
If you’re looking for a leather IWB for a G19 I highly recommend the Kramer IWB #3 in horsehide. I have had one for many years and it is without a doubt one of the best IWB leather holsters made.
Thanks for the replys. I will really have to check out the Comp-Tac and the Kramer IWB #3. I understand that the Raven holsters are very good but thats a bit too much of a wait time and the price is a bit high for sumthing that i have never even touched before. That is one reason why i want to try and keep it on the cheaper side. And i do want to stick to an IWB holster. The comp-tac is a little more money than i was looking for but not by much. And there are a lot of people giving it good reviews. Now all I need to do is wait till my taxes come back and make a good case to the wife of why I NEED a holster.
Another vote for Comp-Tac. The Spartan is $64 and the turn around time is just a few days. The Raven stuff is top notch. The wait is forever + a day but worth it.
I understand what you are saying about the Raven holster. If you ordered one and did not like it I don’t think you would have an issues selling it.
+1 on the MTAC I use mine with both my 19 and 26. It’s comfortable and conceals great, and has plenty of adjustability.
Blade Tech IWB appendix carry. I like the pull the dot loops.
Crossbreed has worked the best for many. Especially since it has a large portion of leather to keep the pistol from poking you. I recommend it highly.
I own a G19 and G26 and my general rule is that if I’m wearing pants, I’m wearing a gun. Living in New England means I have to deal with quite a bit of weather variation, which in turn leads to clothing variations. Since I deal with this I like to have options that best fit my clothes. So in order of heavy to light clothing:
RCS Phantom LC OWB for carrying my G19 w/Surfire X300
Comptac CTAC IWB for the G19 w/o X300
Comptac CTAC IWB for the G26
All this is done with only two holsters since the G19 and G26 both fit the CTAC
Don’t be afraid of discomfort with Kydex, for me the CTAC makes the G19 very comfy and the G26 feel like a cell phone or multi-tool on my belt. Oh BTW belt choice is just and important as gun and holster, a good belt can make all the difference. I suggest an Ares Gear Ranger or a a nice leather Beltman belt.
I use a Comp-Tac or an Atomic Dog. Both work very well accross the board and I’m pretty selective.
Both are Kydex & OWB.
I’ve used a Blade Tech Nano IWB for several years and highly recommend it, pull the dot loops are adjustable for belt size and cant. Very thin kydex, fast draw easy maintenance (soap, water, dry, light wipe with armor all),
Remember though a holster is only as good as the belt you wear it on, I recommend a Wilderness tactical 5 stitch or Hellweg in leather.
Ok i guess i’ve heard this a couple times now and I have two more questions. A few people were talking about the belt. Right now i wear an army issue tan belt. Would that work for CCW or is that a heck no? If not I could use a few more reccomendations for belts, and possiibly pics of your set-ups. One other thing I have tried the search button on here but cant get it to work, but i know i saw a thread about peoples everyday carry weapons/set-ups. If someone has a link for that that would be great. Thanks again.
Check out Kaluban Cloak. They are a little cheaper then some other options but are excellent quality. I have a couple of their holsters and they conceal well both IWB and OWB. I have several more on order. I would send them an email as that seems to be the best way to reach them. Despite being busy they always get back to me same day or next day. Phone is hit or miss. The owner Eugene has always taken care of me.
A quality belt will make a huge difference in the comfort when carrying, as well as speed of draw. I started out trying to use just “normal” belts and found that even my widest and thickest belts dug in to my hips when carrying all day. I went to a local custom leather shop and had a black and brown belt made. I was shocked at the difference a good belt makes.
Remember, that if it is uncomfortable, you will be less likely to carry as much as you would if it is comfortable. and having a concealed carry permit means nothing unless you actually use it.
If you don’t want to drop the sometimes $80 or more for a quality belt, you can give these a try.
A friend of mine has one, and while it is not quite of the quality of my custom belts in the buckle (which is replaceable), and make sure it is totally dry and use some leather balm, and you should be GTG. It will also save you at least $50 over a custom leather belt.
You could get by using your tan GI belt for a while, but I think like with most things when you make the leap to real quality you don’t want to go back to “just getting by”.
I have an MTAC for my G19. I don’t want to “vote against” it, because it is a great quality holster. But I must state that for me having very narrow hips, it does not sit well. I wear 32" pants but probably have a 30" or 31" waist and absolutley no hips to help support. A heavy hunting belt helps some, but the rig still will not wrap around the skinny side of my waist well, especially when sitting down. Even at 8 o’clock position. (left handed)
The MTAC, I feel is just too wide for me from clip to clip on the holster. Again, it is an awesome holster and even on me, it holds the gun very slim, close and tight, I do not print, it’s comfy when just standing or walking, but sitting down and getting up a lot makes it feel cumbersome.
Im going to look into a Milt Sparks or a Kramer for a smaller IWB holster. But it looks like the Kramer does not have snap loops, they look like screws???
This guy makes a great product:
There’s some debate about bullhide/cowhide/horsehide for belts, but I don’t get wrapped up in it. If you’d like a leather belt, this guy makes good quality belts and you can customize and color them however you want.
Your holster and belt are a system. I’ve seen a lot of cops who carry a good off-duty weapon like a G-19 or M&P, have a good holster like a Comp-Tac, Raven, Rosen or Sparks and then strap that set-up to a department store belt. A bad belt will make a good holster sloppy. Don’t skimp on it.
For nylon I like:

Their belts will last years and hold up to abuse.
