Gen 4 G19
10rd mags
Approx 3300 rds fired.
Issues began about 1000rds ago (few weeks ago)
I thought I was riding the slide stop because I had been shooting my 1911s more frequently. Slide wasn’t locking back on the last round. Then I deliberately watched my thumb and the problem persisted.
I started to notice when I’d get to there being only 1 rd left in the mag, the gun wouldn’t fully strip that last rd and hitting the slide stop wouldn’t work.
Ordered, received and installed new slide stop. Same issue.
I marked mags (the ones I had were bought used). Thought I found a couple problem mags but I got to about 2 mags that were acting normally maybe 50% of the time on lock back and who the hell knows about not stripping the mags.
I get home yesterday after the problem is happening on all mags and think I will load 1rd in a mag after replacing the recoil spring/guide rod. Same thing. I pull out a new 10rd G17 mag and it works every time.
I think “ok all my old mags are shit, I’ve found it!” And then I take the 4 new G19 mags I had stashed away and load 1 rd in each and 2 work Fine and 2 dont.
Obviously purposefully loading 1 rd and it not stripping and going into battery isn’t a real world issue but when your down to one rd left and the gun stops when loading that last round, is bad news. The slide not locking back is bad news as well as “click” isn’t the way I want to know it’s time to change mags and reload.
Me and a couple friends are at a loss. I’ll call Glock on Monday but…any ideas?
I suspect weak training ammo, likely 115gr. Try using premium defensive ammo and see if you get the same results. If you don’t, the ammo is the likely culprit.
Ser# starts with UBK. Box and fired casing are in the safe where the wife is sleeping. I’ll get that later. I think it’s about 3 years old.
Freedom Munitions 115 gr reman, Blazer 115gr, Blazer aluminum 115, FA 124gr, Independence 124gr, S&B 115gr.
To be clear, I wasn’t tracking which ammo I was firing when it was happening but at each session ammo was a mixed bag and the problem was happening throughout 2-3 hour sessions.
Also tried putting my frame with my buddies slide, loaded 1 rd in a mag, hit slide release and slide won’t fully strip mag. Maybe a 1/4". Still in the mag.
The 10rd mags are notorious for having feeding issues. As G19A3 said, try and find some 15rd mags to try.
I’ve never used the 10rd mags so I have no personal experience, but I have heard repeatedly that they are the only OEM Glock mags people consistently have issues out of.
Really a pain for you guys stuck in non-free states.
I’ll try the 15rd mags Weds. My buddy is a local policeman. Btw, these 2 issues both came about at approximately 2300rds. Gun was fine before that. Even with 10rd and 15rd mags (15rd in PA class and just before the SAFE Act we could have old prebans back then)
There’s also a lot of guys up here Running 10rd G19 mags without these issues. One friend has 30 10rd mags.
Your due to replace your recoil spring assembly (around every 3000-4000 rounds).
I would: replace your RSA with a GLOCK OEM Gen 4 RSA, complete field strip and detail cleaning of slide and frame, properly lube, and with brand new GLOCK 19 mag (don’t care if its 10 or 15 round) take it to the range and shoot decent 9mm training ammo (not Winchester whit box) and see if you still have the problem.
I’ll try all that Weds. I have the RSA. I’ll clean and strip today and grab some decent ammo weds.
I swapped the RSA and tried putting 1 rd in the mag, locking slide and hitting slide stop. That was my “experimenting”. I thought maybe spring tension was weak. When it still was binding up I went back to the old RSA. Sorry, shouldve clarified.
This is perplexing. Looking forward to you identifying the cause and solution. I have no experience with anything other than the 15 round magazines in my Gen 4 and Gen 3 G19’s. Never an issue. Good luck.
Seriously man, its so frustrating. At least my shooting has been improving the past couple months. I do have a spare 19 I’ll be comparing it with as well.
As has been mentioned, 10 round Glock G19 and G17 mags are notorious for having issues, some more than others and the G19 mags seem to be worse. Just do a google search of this and you will find a ton of information on this. It has been discussed at length on this forum also.
But all at once? At the same time? All of a sudden 6-8 Mags decide to be unreliable? I’ve read many times that 10rd g19 mags have issues and it makes sense to me but it doesn’t seem to make sense that all of a sudden after 2300rds they all start doing this.
I think it’s a gun or spring issue but I don’t know.
