G&P ACOG?

i posted a thread about a bushnell ACOG clone earlier, and now im wondering if i could use a G&P ACOG clone on a real AR15? the G&P sight has the X4 magnification and a reticle that isn’t to far off the real thing, it is an airsoft scope but i researched a little and i saw quite a few posts of good feedback witht this scope on an AR15. so if any of you guys have any experience witht this scope or know anyone who does i would greatly appreciate it if you could give me your opinion.

P.S. if you guys know of any other ACOG clones that would work on a real AR15 i would apreciate it if you told me what brand it is and the price.

Thanks,
Michael

Mike,
How much are you willing to spend, sir? ACOGs look “cool” but their real beauty comes in how they do what they do–not in how they look doing it. Please reconsider.
Look at it this way–the money you spend on an AirSoft toy (it is) could be set aside for the purchase of a REAL ACOG or another optic of equal quality and capability. Or the money you spend on a “clone” could be set aside for ammo and/or training.
But if you do save your dosh you WILL have enough to get you into an ACOG before you know it. Look at the EE over at Tos or M4.net version of same. Buying a used ACOG IS JUST AS GOOD given Trijicon standing behind their product for a LIFETIME. Good luck.

Ugh…

Whats the point in making a rifle look “cool” if it doesnt function?

The G&P scopes tend to have lots of problems with zeroing and holding zero. They’re chinese, they arent a refined product like the real trijicon article. Trust me, i know what you’re going to say and i understand. I dont have 800 bucks either to spend on optics.

If i were in your shoes i would take a second and figur out what i plan on doing with my rifle. Am i going to be plinking at the range? Will i be attending training classes? Will i be hunting?

Answer that question for us and then we can go ahead and help you find an ideal optic for your needs instead of one that looks cool.

Put your money into something else or if you really likeit for looks put it on an airsoft gun. If the airsoft toy worked for that money we would all have them and the military would have a contract for the cheapies.

well i planned on mostly plinking with it (100 meters and further), but i eventually want to get into training classes and competition (not for a while yet) and maybe once or twice a year going out hunting with it (deer, bore, small game).

My price range is $300 and below

Hey! Another okie! [shameless plug]We’re trying to get together local folks, check out our Oklahoma Network here on M4Carbine if you haven’t seen it already. [/shameless plug]

These guys are right, clones and knock-offs aren’t worth the trouble, just to get a certain “look”.

Based on what you said, plinking at longer ranges, maybe some hunting, and wanting the option of trying a competition or class, but on a $300 budget, I’d recommend looking at a Millet DMS-1 1-4x24 scope. It probably won’t be on the durability level of an Aimpoint or ACOG, but it will be versatile and is built for real guns at least. I think they go for around $230, leaving you some room to find a budget mount. Click here for a thread about that optic, and there is also some mention of them scattered through this thread.

www.dsgarms.com Go to this site and then to the Optics & Mounts page and look at their package deals. For $289.00 you get a Bushnell Trophy 1.5-6X42mm Illuminated optic AND an ADM mount. Not too bad and it even comes under your price by a few bones. You can even save more $$$ going w/ the 1.75-4X32 non-illuminated optic/mount combo.
While Bushnell is no Trijicon it is a whole lot better then any “AirClone” toy by a huge amount and the fact that it comes w/an ADM mount puts you in a better postion $$$ wise if you decide to get better glass in the future. Cheers.

1(ish)-4x scopes are very versatile and at home on a multi-role rifle.

i was in a similar position. wanted to get a short dot, but dont have the 2k to spend on it, because give or take, that’s what i usually spend on a fully kitted out rifle.

went with a trijicon accupoint 1.5-4x and i think that power-range is a great class of scope.

i’d go with the Bushnell ADM package were i you, over an airsoft knock off just for looks. solid advice from LFE, IMO.

Please do not tell the U.S. Army that there are ACOGs for under $300. Next thing you know, they go with the lowest bidder and we all end up with various G&P optics.

Dont worry, troop. Given recent trends the ONLY way the Army is ever gonna kit up w/G&P optics is if the Marines do it first! lol

I wish I could disagree with you, but unfortunately you are right. the Army has given up on doing anything new or innovative for anyone other than the Special Operations. We just consider ourselves lucky to get the SpecOps hand-me-downs.

A lot has changed since I joined 25 years ago. Just one more drop into the retirement bucket.

You didn’t mention what type of AR you’re using, but all AR’s are fairly expensive firearms… so why would you stick a cheap, BB gun scope on it? If you want something that “looks” like an ACOG, look at the Bushnell Trophy MP for $166 :

These may look similar to an ACOG, but is nothing like one. The most popular ACOGs are 4X… this is 1X. The ACOG’s come in several different reticles, all of which require no batteries. This one requires batteries, and has a red/green "T"dot, which is basically a “T” shape with a dot in the center (I’ve also read that Bushnell is kicking out some with slightly canted reticles). I wouldn’t want to trust my life to one, but I’d rather have it over any chinese rip-off or clone!
Next choice would be (as mentioned) the Millet DMS-1. It does require batteries, BUT, if they run out, it still has a black reticle like a normal riflescope. The glass is good, and from what I’ve been hearing, the quality and durability is exceptional for the price, $205 on sale at Midway :

But if I had a $300 max budget, I’d go for the BEST glass I could get, which would be the Leupold VX-II 1-4x20 scope. Lifetime warranty, top-notch customer service, and everyone knows the name Leupold - obviously one of the best. $299 :
