I’m in & looking foward to it!

Just a few points of clarification due to a number of inquiries we have received.

1. This class will NOT be held indoors.

The address listed for the hosting facility - JFT / Praetorian - is the classroom.

The class will be held at an outdoor (fairly impressive by Northeast standards) facility nearby!

2. If you wish to sign up for the class, please use the Grey Group Training link provided in the OP. I will re-post is below:

http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-3791/Redback-One-2-dsh-Day-Tactical/Detail.bok

3. This is a 2-Day Tactical Carbine class - which is distinct from the 2 Day Basic Carbine Class.

4. Legalities - please read. Summary: pre-ban (pre 9/13/94) AR pattern lowers that are not “Colt AR-15” or “Colt AR-15 Sporter” are okay. Some other models and types banned by name altogether. No mag ban. Permit needed for pistol.

CT has TWO Assault Weapons bans, which are similar to NY and MA … but not exactly the same.

The first one bans specific guns by name. Please click here for a list.

The second one adopts the federal ban which sunsetted. Any long gun manufactured after September 13, 1994 can’t have more than two of following evil features: pistol grip, flash hider, bayo lug, detachable magazine, collapsible or folding stock, etc. Usually, this means bayo lug milled off, permanently attached muzzle brake, and permanently pinned stock.

If you are coming out of state to bring a carbine to this class, there are a few details you should mind.

-Specifically, “Colt AR-15” and “Colt AR-15 Sporter” are banned by name. You cannot bring these (even if they are in post-ban configuration) into the state of CT unless your are LEO or military and you possess them in connection with official duties.

-Pre-ban AR pattern carbines that are not “Colt AR-15” and “Colt AR-15 Sporter” are FINE so long as the lower receiver was manufactured prior to September 13, 1994. Common pre-ban examples: Essential Arms, Eagle Arms, Olympic Arms, Bushmaster, PWA etc. On a pre-ban lower, bring any upper you desire.

-Note that all AK’s in 7.62 x 39 are banned, but AK’s in other calibers (.223, 5.45) in post-ban configuration are ok. VZ-58’s in post-ban configuration are ok as well.

-CT does not have a magazine ban. I may have spare PMAGS to loan if you don’t want to beat up your GI pre-ban mags.

-While handguns are not required for this class (I’m bringing mine), to transport a handgun outside a home in the state of CT, you need a valid CT pistol permit (our “CCW”). CT does not recognize or have reciprocity with other states CCW’s. One narrow exception to the CT pistol permit requirement is for firearms training, but don’t count on your average LEO to know this carveout if you get pulled over/detained. Obviously, LEOSA 2004 applies. If you are a non-resident and are interested in applying, Click Here, CT is shall-issue, 90 day turnaround

-Suppressors are FINE on pre-ban rifles - bring your ATF paperwork. Since cans are considered flash hiders, they are not kosher on post-ban rifles. SBR’s are FINE (again, bring your ATF paperwork), but bear in mind if your SBR has a barrel less than twelve inches in length, it is considered a pistol under CT state law and therefore the CT pistol permit requirement kicks in. Note that a SBR as defined by federal law does NOT exempt it from CT AWB law … if it’s an SBR and has more than the allowable evil features, the registered lower receiver must be a pre-ban that is not specifically prohibited by name.

-CT residents can have full-auto, provided it is capable of full-auto fire only. If it is capable of select fire and not properly registered with CT state police (prior to an earlier deadline), it is an “assault weapon” and therefore illegal. Full auto only is pretty much useless in a carbine class, so leave 'em at home.

The Long Island class is a 2-Day Tactical Carbine class; I attended the 2 Day Basic Carbine class on Long Island last year

Apologies, my bad. Corrected.

-slut

For all of those students that couldn’t get onto the LI course due to it being full, the curriculum for both the CT and Long Island class will be the same. The CT course is about half way filled so jump on it before it fills up too!

For the enrolled students, make sure that you arrive with your rifle zeroed! This will save about 1-3 hours of training time. I recommend a 50/200m zero, but this training will focus on advanced weapons manipulations and movement training.

Make sure you have good ammo and plenty of lube on the working parts to keep that gun going!

Check ALL of your accoutrements on your guns. Anything that has a QD lever, check for fit and anything that has a screw thread attachment, make sure it’s finger tight then tighten it 1/4 turn with a screw driver.

Batteries! Make sure you have spares for anything that takes them.

Magazines! Do a 100% check on ALL of your mags and get rid of any that are suspect. Mag Test #1 - Fill it up and hit the bottom, see if any rounds spring out! If so, walk it to the trash can and deposit it!

I will be running full kit while on the range, that means armor, belt order and full combat uniform and gloves. I don’t mind what my students train in, so feel free to bring your range rigs.

Look forward to seeing you all there. Should be a great couple of days.

GTG…I’m in and fired up! Looking very much forward to this class!

Bump for legalities - please see text in blue a few posts above.

Just signed up for this course! Will we need our pistols for transition drills in this course?

Always bring a sidearm.

i’m bringing my pistol, as i’m never without it.

How much ammo are you bringing for your handgun?

It’s probably overkill, but I’m actually going to bring 400 rds for pistol. Normally I would bring 300 rds or so to a two day “carbine” course and only end up shooting about 200, but I’m bringing extra in the event he has us run his shooting standard quals a few times which will definately burn up ammo.

Hopefully Jason will chime in on the pistol.

I’m assuming we might be doing some transition drills, but I dunno.

Okay, just communicated with Jason.

-If you can legally* bring a handgun, by all means, bring it.

-Bring spare mags (have at least 3), and 400 rounds of ammo.

-Don’t sweat this if you don’t have or can’t legally bring a handgun.

*Generally, a valid CT pistol permit is required to have a handgun outside the home. There are narrow exceptions, for example - firearms training is one of them. Please refer to legalities in blue text a few posts above.

A blue training gun is a good alternative for those having issues bringing one to class. They can use it to go through the motions and get the technique down at the minimum.

For everyone that is attending the 2-Day Tactical Carbine Course to be held in CT, please bring the following:

Carbine
(1) Carbine with sling, iron sights, (optic - desirable, not essential)
(2) 4x (30 rnd) magazines minimum
(3) Carbine magazine pouches (belt/vest)

Pistol
(1) Pistol with holster
(2) 3x (high cap) magazines minimum
(3) Pistol magazine carriers (belt/vest)

General equipment
(1) Eye Protection
(2) Ear Protection
(3) Sun screen
(4) Spare batteries
(5) Spare parts - desirable not essential
(6) Oil/Lubricant
(7) Water/hydration
(8) Battle snacks

Ammunition requirements
Carbine: 1000 rounds
Pistol: 400 rounds

Please arrive to the training well prepared by conducting the following battle preparation:

(1) Have your weapon zeroed, including your iron sights.
(2) Give all of your equipment a 100% check to ensure that it is all servicable and that nothing is rusted, broken or needs replacing.
(3) Check all of your magazines for servicability, pull them appart and clean if you have to.
(4) Check all of your weapon accessories to ensure that they are tight and replace all of the batteries in anything that uses them, including your reactive ear pro so you can hear what I am saying on the line!
(5) Clean your weapon prior to the training course, pull the barrel through with a dry piece of cloth at the range and wipe the bolt face dry at the same time.
(6) Keep plenty of good lubricant handy during the training and keep the weapon well lubed for the duration of the training.
(7) Bring quality ammunition. I know that it becomes expensive, but good ammo will serve you better in the long run by decreasing the wear and tear on your weapon and maintaining a good reliable carbine. This will help minimize any stress or embarrassment to you on the firing line. I have seen plenty of expensive weapons break due to poor round selection.

This should be a great course and I am really looking forward to it. See you there.

Jason

FYI: This class is now full. Thank you to everyone who signed up. You guys are in for one hell of a class. As always if you have any questions please feel free to hit me up with an email, cell phone call, etc. Grey Group Training is always glad to help.
