Kind of glacier movement. The ice in the rock cracks expand, break the rock and ground movement lower drops and shifts.
Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana have massive caves and clear water underground wells My Grandfather used to Drill Wells in Indiana. He said you could hit water most everywhere back then at 40 ft, but he always drilled down to 80-100 to make sure they were in a good deep pocket.
There’s a funny story about the “Two Story Smokehouse” where a guy hand built his smokehouse over a granite Hole and became famous for smoking Hams which is pretty much a 24 hour a day job.
Well the day shift smoked Hams on the upper deck and the night shift made whiskey in the lower and no one was ever the wiser.
