Front sling swivel removal

I’ve just put the Magpul MOE front handguards on one of my AR’s.

Very pleased with how they are working.

Trouble is, the front sling swivel is not used, and since it is able to swing freely, it hits the handguards making a ‘tinking’ type sound with every step… driving me kinda nuts…

Will most likely always use a single point on this upper, so the front swivel serves no purpose.

I assume that the FSB pin is all that is needed to hold the FSB on, so can I just drill out the pin that retains it and be rid of it?

Reason I ask is, I don’t see anybody doing it, so I’m hesitant to just remove it.

Don’t worry, you are not alone, I just baught a RRA 10.5" pistol upper for my Pistol. I want to remove the useless sling point, but it has a set screw style Gas Block. I’m afraid I’ll torque it if I take a Punch and Hammer to it 10.5"

Drive the rivet through with a punch that is a smaller diameter than the rivet.

Yeah I’ve got a punch small enough… good idea, thanks. Will support the FSB and Bayo lug with a couple of 2x4’s.

As Eric stated a small punch and a block of wood and you should be able to punch it out fairly easy.

Yeah canting the front sight by accident would SUCK!

Will feel good to be rid of the thing flopping away out there going 'tinka-tinka- tinka while I’m trying to be quiet.

Just punch it out with a center punch. How often do you suspect you’ll use it??

If you’re truly concerned with knocking a gas block out of alignment tapping the sling rivet free, try drilling off the shop head first, then tapping out the remainder of the rivet with a pin punch and hammer.
