I have a plain jane SDI 16" mid-length AR. I would like to get a BCG VCAS sling for it, but I don’t want to use the standard front mount hanging under the FSB. Some day, I’ll get a Larue 9.0 rail, but until then I was thinking of using a GG&G QD Sling Thing. However, I’m concerned it might mar the FSB. There is also the type that clamps around the barrel inside the FSB, but again, I am concerned it might mar the barrel. Then there’s the BCG UWL, but I want something solid on the rifle.
Who’s got experience with the GG&G QD Sling Thing? When I remove it, will there be a bunch of shiny metal where it used to be?
Don’t mock me because of my CA legal build. In 40 days, I will be moved, and I can enjoy life like I used to.
Anywhere two pieces rub together, the finish will come off. It’s just a matter of time, and the differential hardness of the two pieces.
I don’t believe the M4 mount really moves much, so that may be the ticket. However, I don’t have one, so maybe someone here who does can say for certain. I made a custom band that goes around the barrel under the FSB and rotates 180 degrees, so it will swivel from right to left. It takes the HK style claw hook, and I have a double sided loop plate on the receiver. Although I also made one that will accept the standard front swivel, I just ended up not using it. It will certainly polish the barrel, but it covers the whole area under the FSB, so it won’t be seen.
Get an M4 sling mount from Brownells or Bushmaster or whoever else has them.
They look cheesy and work great!
They can also be mounted right or left side depending on your preference.
