Front Sight Width/Rear Sight Width Question

I have recently switched to a Sevigny competition rear sight on my Glock 17 with a .150 rear notch. I’m using this in conjunction with a .105 Dawson Precision front sight. I’ve noticed I am faster but when shooting precision at 25 yards slowfire my groups are either left or right of the bullseye. They are still tight but not were there supposed to be. I chalked this up to the wider notch on the Sevigny’s or just not used to all the light on either side of the front sight.

Of course when I was on the clock I shot a 57/60 (6 shots 25 meter bullseye, Kyle Defoor pistol drill 1). Then I proceed to make personal bests on El presidente (7.42) and Bianchi Cup (46/48).

I haven’t done enough testing with this setup but my initial results are that a .150 rear sight and a .105 front sight might have just a little too much “slop” for my liking.

So my question is what is your guy’s experience with Notch Width/ Front sight Width and at what point do you see a loss of accuracy? Is there a ratio that works best as far as speed and accuracy for self-defense/Police Work? I’m seeing Armiglo sights with a .180 rear notch and I can’t believe they would be any good past 15 yards.

And please lets not get into the whole “Big Dots sights suck, don’t suck” argument.

“The past is prologue”

The wide rears are just as you observed: for speed.

Tighter rear windows are better for precision - assuming your eyesight can manage them. I think the Warren .150 rear with their .125 fronts are a decent balance. Warren now offers a Warren Sevigny rear .130 wide and I know a 23 year old that hit another gear in precision slow and precision very fast with that narrow rear and Warren .125 tritium front sights.

I hear ya man.

Ive actually experienced the same thing running .100 fronts and .150 rears on my M&P’s.

Ive recently gone to .115 fronts with the .150 rears on my Glocks and man, i am digging the light bar ratio.

For me, it is a perfect blend of speed and accuracy yet still provides a nice, thin front post for accuracy at distance. I cannot stand thick front sights that obscure what i am aiming at.

The .100 front with the .150 rear had a little bit too much of a “wobble” zone for me as well.

I have my issued glock with standard trijicons and my personal glocks with the ameriglos with the .180 rear notch (the i-dot). Oddly enough I am more precise with the ameriglos then the trijicons even at distances.

At first I thought they were “sloppy”, but I found as I practiced it allowed me to actually be more precise. I think where most people get flustered is they try to get the sight perfectly in the middle and then speed up their trigger pull which will throw off your shot.
