I’m new to the EBR, so forgive me for this stupid newbie question. Can you use an optic like an Aimpoint or Eotech with a front sight post? I’ve seen the BUS types and it seems that the answer would be no. Sorry if this topic has been covered before. I did a search and didn’t find anything.
I use an Aimpoint T-1 with a front sight post and a fixed Larue rear site with no problems. With the aimpoints the red dot does not have to be centered in the sight to work. I just look over my iron sights to use the aimpoint. If I need the iron sights I use them through the aimpoint. You shouldn’t have any issues.
Exactly. Depending on the mount you use, the optic, like an Aimpoint, can be above the line of your iron sights. [lower 1/3 co-witness]

you dont “need” to view the optic reticle above the FSB.
the red dot is designed for shooting with both eyes open. even if the dot is blocked, you will still see the dot projected on the target if BOTH eyes are open.
you could cowitness the sights (red dot and iron sights together) or do a lower 1/3 cowitness where the red dot will be above the irons when irons are lined up. Its personal preference. I personally try to keep my sight picture as free as possible
Most optics are mounted with the front sight post in view. As stated, it is not a major issue and can be easily accustomed to.
But some either do mount high or get fold down posts regardless.
If you shoot a lot, you don’t even notice the front sight.
I have lazy eye… this is not the case. I can shoot strong side both eyes, but if I put the sight cover on the front of my rds, I go cross eyed. As a general rule, yes, you should be able to cap the front of the rds and still see the dot superimposed on the target.
I’ll go one further and say I prefer to have a standard front sight and use the RDS (Red Dot Sight) absolute co-witness (red dot rests on the top of the front sight post).
Then a single flip-up rear.
And this way, you only have one consistent cheek weld.
