So, don’t laugh too hard, the market today is what it is, but I bought a Bushmaster Carbon 15 ORC from Gander Mountain a couple of weeks ago to use as a second/beater carbine.
I dislike the cheap Bushnell red dot site it came with and would rather just put straight iron sites on it. The rear site would be the carry handle I took off my 6920.
What are my less expensive but not-too-shitty options for a front site?
Could you do an MOE grip and the front MBUS? That would run total around $60 I think. And for a cheapish red dot, I have a Vortex Sparc and its ok. I wouldn’t call it tough or anything though
Who has a standard FSB/gas block deal in stock, that I could install without too much difficulty? I thought that might be my best bet, was hoping I could get away with spending/doing less, but just don’t know enough to be sure.
$200 is way beyond what I am willing/able to spend for a sighting system on this rifle. This rifle is my lowest priority right now among things that are actually eligible for spending and I’m sure the iron site option will be more durable and longer lived than a mid-range red dot.
Midway is the only online shop that estimates return to stock dates so you could look there. I’m surprised that this part is out of stock completely. But I guess people are buying disassembled barrels because that’s all they can find
“Front MBUS must be mounted to a railed fore end on the same plane as the receiver rail. Because of this the sight is also not compatible with MOE Hand Guards.”
It will be a little more work (“These are new and are not yet drilled for taper pins, and should be installed by a qualified gunsmith.”) but shouldn’t cost too terribly much.
If I have to ask what it takes to do that, am I not a qualified gunsmith?
It is easy- with the right equipment. That said, few folks have the right equipment. Send it to ADCO and they’ll even supply the fsb. I think it’s under $150.
Adding a new FSB to a previously drilled barrel will be difficult.
If the new FSB is not drilled in exactly the same spot as the previous pin holes you will remove more material on the barrel. Then when you use the taper ream you may only be reaming the material in the FSB.
PM me… I have an old, scuffed up F marked NM A-2 FSB in my parts box. All holes present and ready for your pins. Sorry I don’t have any taper pins in stock.
