Since it’s a free float, any issues with doing it? Curious if anyone has.
I may want to do a project by replacing the fsb with a block, but retain the end cap and Delta assembly. Want this the run magnified optic without the front sight interference on low power. The other thought was to just use a Troy since it would be the easiest to use with an existing upper.
Mark, I’m somewhat confused as to what you want to do.
The FSB holds the handguard cap in place. If you replace it with a gas block, it should still hold it in place, but a 9.0 rail, unless on a midlength, is going to run into conflicts with the cap. Am I missing something?
Rob, It would be on a middy. You see I was trying to retain the stock items as much as possible. By the way, does the Omega need the end cap and will the end cap interfer if it doesn’t? I might just shave the fsb down so I won’t have to worry about pinning.
I don’t think that the Omega is the best application in that case, but I may be alone in that thought.
IMHO the application for the Omega is when you’re keeping the front sight base in tact, unless there’s a cost or other installation issue. But, removing and/or grinding the FSB is a pretty armorer-y (made that word up!) thing to do, which would make me think that anyone capable of tackling that would also be capable of installing a DD M4 or Lite.
I was planning on getting a 9" Omega rail for a 16" carbine rifle. I was also planning on getting a low profile vltor gas block, is the handguard cap Necessary for the Omega rail? Or should I just get a rail that mounts behind the delta ring, so the end of the rail will have the smooth hidden gas block look.
This is an OMEGA 9.0 on a BCM midlength. There is about 3/32 of an inch space between the handguard cap and the rail. Also, as you can see from this angle, due to the narrower profile of the DD rail you wont be able to slide accessories onto the side rail from the front without doing a little trimming. Obviously things like LT mounts that clamp over the rail have no issues. The OMEGAs mount on the barrel nut and have set screws that square the rail up and tight via pushing on the front of the barrel nut. They do not mount to the handguard cap.
Regards,
Ek
P.S. - Sorry about the cheesy pics. I live out of hotels so I can’t really waltz out into the parking lot to take a few photos in the sunlight.
