Friend's dog was being walked last night. Police shot it.

Last night my friend’s friend was walking my friends dog through a park. The dog lives in an apartment and this is the only park for a few miles.

This park is full of homeless people that illegally sleep there. The police never seem to do anything about it. It is a very small, urban park. One city block, probably two football fields, in a downtown area surrounded by high rises and apartments.

Ken was listening to headphones and didn’t hear the officers behind him asking him questions. Next thing he knows he is being tackled, and he lets go of the leash (by instinct. This isn’t a trained police dog set to attack on command) and the cop just shot it. Ken, of course, didn’t know what was going on so he tried fighting the people who just assaulted him out of nowhere.

This wasn’t a hardened criminal. This wasn’t some dogfighting rabies dog. This isn’t about ignoring the police or being disrespectful to their authority, because that didn’t happen. The only thing ken is guilty of is being an idiot college student not aware of his surroundings. That terrifies me.

Yikes. That escalated quickly.
