I have seen several makers here post there work and I figured I would share mine. Keep in mind I am a rookie, not even close to what these guys are doing. But I am having a blast doing it!
The large Hawk looking chopper is 5160 as well as the K-bitish looking blade. The others are 0-1 steel. All heat treated by Brad @ Peter’s Heat Treat Inc.
Just a few I finished recently. Turned out pretty good for a newb.
all have been coated in Brownells AH-II and then dusted with Rusto-Hammered on finish.
Thanks for looking fellas:
Just need to hit the edges on the grinder and press some kydex:
Primitive Chopper
Kydex for the K-Bit looking monster, smashed one eyelet to hell, so need to pull it and re set one.
LOL, thanks guys. I just like different but still love my Traditional blades too. I just could not afford to buy cool blades that I liked anymore. I then started reading and picking every makers brain I could…Jumped in. Been hooked ever since:D
I appreciate the support fellas. I have a LONG way to go, but I am doing what I can!
ETA:ETA: Damn I love that Gutshot and Gutshot Fighter of your’s, Eric. Killer grinds bro!!! Coming from a skilled maker such as yourself, that is huge…Thank you sir!
My brother lives in SD. I sure do miss the west coast bro. I need out of this place and back to what I know:neo:
We all start somewhere and your off to a damn fine start! Just get those handle edges rounded over more and have no sharp spots on the handle. Use 220 after a quick pass of 120 on the handle edges to soften the edge with out rounding it as much to get a feel for it.
Hey Brian, Thanks buddy! I have followed your work over on CK&G.com You make the cleanest looking blades bud!
The edges on the handles look alot worse than they are. I hit them on the belt all the way around, they feel nice and soft in the palm…maybe I will round them off even more! I just sand them until I dont feel a sharp pain in my palm while gripping the hell out of it…LOL
Basically what I mean is the outside tang area needs to not be 90 degrees and pointy peeks where finger cut outs are. Use the 220 to soften these areas and round over the 90 degree angle on the tang area handle material only!! Don’t round over the tang metal itself but the corner of the handle material shouldn’t be there. Look at VOX knives. He will inspire you I know as well as Anso.
Thanks Brian! Trust me I am not afraid to ask questions…LOL That is how I got this far, picking the brains of the masters…haha Everything I have done has been by trial and error. One of these days I will make it to a few makers shops and get some hands on training. So for now, its just me learning on my own with the help of the forums, books and like you said…asking questions:D
