Free Float Rail on S&W OR Carbine

I THINK I read somewhere that the front sight base on the S&W Carbine was WELDED on - not pinned, so mounting a FF Rail system would be hard - true?

My S&W front sight does not look to be welded on. I have roll pins in mine. Mine was purchased in Aug of this year (2010).

Definitely pinned.

My 15OR has two pins in it.

I also have a pinned gas block
