I would like to FF my 20" Colt. I’m getting installed a DD A3 Big hole upper. My optic is EoTech 512 on a LT110. The reason I’m free floating is so I could mount a Surefire M900AB and for accuracy enhancement. This rifle will be used as a trunk and homeland security rifle. Can I get a cheaper rail and get by or do I have to go top of the line? Example YH $129.00 ,MI 21 for $179.00 or KAC M5 for $349.00.
A Yankee Hill well will work very well, they’re aren’t the most refined rails but they are good and hold up very well. They are pretty large (meaning the side to side measurement between the rails) and they are heavier than more expensive rails.
Thank you. I think I will go with the YH Tac Light Free float at 14.75 ozs.
The MI is a very solid unit, especially for the price. YHM has occasional issues with the rail being out of spec, and I don’t care for their barrel nut replacement.

I’m not sure its worth it with the EO on it…
The KAC M5 RAS is not a FF (their FF RAS or URX are still good FF options)
I’m not a M900 fan at the best of times.
IMHO if you want a light on a gun like that - just add the Streamlight polymer bolt on rail thru the OEM handguard - and add a G2.
Why don’t you like the M900 ?
Heavy, fragile, awkward placement of activation pad.
BIG
Kevin what would you recommend? I want a light to illuminate threats out past 100 yards. I’m not interested in room clearing, if I ever need to room clear I’ll use gas and match.
You’d be surprised how much light the G2 can throw.
Going to a 9V M961 will get you more reach, I sold off all mine recently or I could have cut youa good deal.
I honestly think much more than a 6V light is over kill – unless your trying to jacklight coyotes at range.
For illuminating potnetial threats outside 100m – USE NV
Or an non weapon mounted lighting system.
The SF lights for the M2 work well on HMG’s - but unless you need weapon mounted light on a platform like that I’d suggest your making a bigger target of yourself than you want to -
While your trying to locate someone past 100m they have you pinpointed with first flash, and for home defence issues - you’d be hard pressed to justify engaging a threat at that range - even if you could find and fix.
We’ve sent back MORE M900s for problems than any other SureFire light made.
Thanks great info I have a old 6P ,I’ll convert to 120L thanks. Any input will be appricated.
SKip Surefire’s 120L upgrade and buy a more durable 230lumen Malkoff M60 or even better, the 180 lumen Malkoff M60W which will give you almost incan-type light quality, 1.5 hour run-time, and throw nearly as far as teh M60W, all while making greens look green and reds look red.
