I saw this and was wary (I did some checking), but I did it anyways. I just recieved my membership card and info from the NRA, so it is legit. I payed for a second year as well for only $25.
Hopefully I didn’t just sign myself up for a boat load of spam but I just did it as well. It looks pretty legit though if it is on the up and up I’m in for a second year:D
if you support the NRA you will not take advantage of this offer. here’s why.
NRA has to pay to send you the magazine, the card, the membership letter, and endless marketing letters begging for more money for as long as they have your current address.
If you add up the costs to NRA of all those letters, you will quickly discover that even if you paid the full membership price, you will be COSTING the NRA more money than you give them. If you take a free membership, you are quite simply a drain on thier resources, during a critical time.
If you really support the NRA, you will just anonymously send them a check for $25 with no return address or contact information on the letter anywhere. That will at least offset the cost of another persons “free” membership.
If I were an anti NRA person, I’d start a viral campaign to sign up for thousands of free NRA memberships and cost the NRA millions of dollars.
If the NRA didnt think it would make money off of this, they wouldnt do it.I used it to sign up several friends and family members.I suspect at least a few will renew and become long term members. As well as possibly sending in donations.
Not to mention a spike in the number of new NRA members could send a powerfull message to the Pelosi’s of the world.
I can see both points making good sense. I think NRA wants the numbers right now and probably has a decent amount of cash on hand. Either way, I will donate…
Every month, a magazine gets mailed to the homes of about 3 million gun owners. Do you think that maybe, just maybe, advertising space in that magazine is valuable?
If you look at whats happening in the shooter community, they are acting by themsleves WITHOUT the NRA’s encouragement.
In large part the NRA is left behind the active shooting community trying to look like they did something then when the media calls them to find out what happened, they take the credit and claim some sort of power.
Most of us know thats just plain ol BS. look at Zumbo, the NRA was at home drinking beers while we were puttin some hurt on a moron. come tuesday, they claimed credit. Same thing with the run on guns and ammo now.
NRA is largely an oversized and overly bureaucratic organization that wastes money and time on insignificant programs. they are unable to respond to the needs and demands of the shooting community that evolves by the hour. They are no longer a significant source of organization and focus for gun owners. we have grown beyond the control or direction of our parent, and we are now acting of one mind, independant of parental control
In large part, gun owners are moved by a few influential internet personalities who can stir the pot and cause a wave of activity.
The NRA would be much better off by focusing on legal actions and lobbying, and forget all their silly safety and training programs. They should stop thier mailings and cut magazines down to one publication. they could reduce employees and sell off physical assets. If they focused more on the information age, they’d save millions a year. they could also shut down thier spanish language website too for that matter.
Quite simply the media and politicians have no idea where else to ask for explanations of whats going on, so the NRA is the perennial bad guy/fall guy they go to for answers.
NRA has lost control of and is out of touch with the needs and demands of gunowners. they have been left to explain why and take credit for, the activities of true americans who dont have time or need for a bloated, antiquated system, dependent on membership numbers to prove it has clout.
“But we need the NRA because there is no-one else the politicians will listen to!!”… I got news for you gentlemen, you have more power than the NRA has ever had. The politicians havent quite grasped the gravity of thier situation, but they are slowly getting it. In a matter of months, it will become painfully obvious that they are in some serious shit, and there aint nothin the NRA can do to stop it .
I dont know…
The only range within an hour of me was paid for in large part by the NRA.They bought and then donated the land if im not mistaken.I very much appreciate that.
I do try to give my donations mostly to the PVF and ILA though. Not sure what(if any) difference that makes.
I dont walk in lock step with the NRA by any means.I still believe they’ve done alot for the cause and will continue to do so.
I signed up. I see no harm in doing so, and yes I think the NRA could do more. Hell we all could do more in life.
It’s a great deal and a smart move. I’ve been giving away paid membership to selected relatives and friends-- this just makes the process cheaper.
I don’t expect this free offer to last-- too much potential for a gun-grabber dogpile if it lasts too long…
Last summer , the NRA had about 3.8 million members. IIRC , prior to the Clinton election and the '94 AWB , membership was stagnant at about 2.5 million.
I would not be surprised to see the 5 million mark sometime this year.
The Second Amendment Foundation is a great organization , too.
www.saf.org
Check out the lawsuits , SAF is the organization the media won’t talk about.
I signed up for free but selected no magazine or correspondence.
It’s possible that incremental membership growth of late could be a number of EBR owners and new semi-automatic gun buyers who truly understand the purely cosmetic nature of the guns listed in the AWB, which should affect board of directors selection at some point down the road and possibly guide the NRA toward the tougher spirit displayed by GOA/JPFO/CCRKBA/SAF/etc.
It’s real, and that site is a sister site of the main NRA site. First year is free, and every other year is discounted rate. I already got the (free) Charlton Heston commemorative knife!
There’s winners and there’s whiners.
These two national gun owner organization do the real heavy lifting and the serious winning. They are very different
but they make a very successful team.
They never use back-stabbing as a recruiting tool.
In the early 90’s I was a die-hard nra supporter. I was always trying to recruit new members. I would often mail in donations ($5 to maybe $30) when I really couldn’t afford to. I had young kids, new house, $11/hr job; barely two nickels to rub together. BUt, I still thought it was important to contribute. Then, there were several things, which most people still remember, that they comprimised on that really pissed me off. I went for about the last 12 or 13 years without giving them a dime. I’m sure though that there are a lot of people just like I used to be that send in money. They couldn’t have built that Taj-Mahal HQ soley on membership dues. So, don’t think you’re going to “drain their resources” by accepting a one year free membership. I have decided to give them another try. Signed up for the free year about a month ago. I think it would be good for their membership to grow right now.

There seems to be a lot of interest concerning the American Revolution in some circles.
An NRA membership is not just a one way street. The three magazines are worth a look. The NRA’s " American Rifleman ’ has been around for a long time.
The latest copy includes “Riflemen of The Revolution” by John Plaster. The cover is by Don Troiani. Both men seem to have done their homework concerning the
Revolution. Both seem to well respected in their particular fields.
Some of Mr. Troiani’s paintings can be found here:
Go to the gallery , then to “American Revolution & Early Subjects”.
Different people might view each painting and historical note in very different ways.
Wow.
Sliding down the page into oblivion.

Where are all the " Experts " on the Revolutionary Era and the Founding Fathers?
There are several very good pro-gun organizations, but the NRA is the grand-daddy of 'em all. The organization isn’t perfect, but it has more clout than any of the others. It is the first one you should join. If you want to join GOA, JPFO, etc., fine, but the NRA should be the first.
By the way, if you aren’t an NRA member … WTF are you doing on this forum??
A great question:
+1.
There’s winners…
