Forward Sling Mount Preference???

What type of forward sling attachment position do you prefer on your AR carbine and why???

I like QD’s in general now, as it makes getting a rifle off - when you’re geared up especially - much easier. Also makes changing slings a breeze too!

I used HK snap hook loops until Magpul put out the RSA, now all my carbines have RSAs. I had all of my carbines slings set up with HK hooks, and used them as a modified short 2 point with a HK hook end plate and a QD socket on the other end, and having the HK in front and end plate just made transitioning between the two faster than a QD socket. I also use the RSA as an index point for my palm in lieu of a VFG or hand stop.

ETA: A long time ago, I used to have a snap shackle on a ASAP on the same end of the QD point on the sling, but the snap shackle broke so I ditched the ASAP since I thought it was a sub-par sling attachment point.

My KAC SR-15E3 has QD attachment points all over the rifle. Would seem silly to mount any other way. QD is my preference in any case for the ease of attaching and removing the sling, and I prefer QD points built into the handguard as it is one less thing to attach to the rifle that I have to buy or could could come loose.

All of the above depending. HK hook on each end of the sling will allow hooking up (QD) to Mil Spec sling loops so I have one. Preference is rotation limited QD provided the sockets are in the right place.

I prefer the QD vs. the clips simply because they dont rattle as much.

As long as it is easy to take off without having someone else do it in full gear I love it.

When I change my current set up I will most likely go with a HK loop.

HK hook on a Magpul RSA.

Since I always use an MS2 and now an MS3 I use the RSA at the bottom of the rail closest to my lower. I recently used a friends BFG Vickers sling with the sewn in qd’s and connected them to my Centurion rail, almost at the same point my RSA is at, then to my emod stock. Worked out great and was actually a great sling/attachment system. I still love the option of single to 2 point on the fly. If I was to change it would be the QD’s for sure.

I like the streamlined, strong, and convenient QD ring style of sling mounts. BFG makes a VCAS with QD rings sewn in.

I use Blue Force Vickers slings with sewn in QD loops, it’s easy to completely remove the sling when it’s not needed.

QD socket things disgust me on a weapon on every level. I para cord everything for a removeable sling option without the mechanical risks of QD.

I’ll use gearsector’s sling loops or similar on a carbine rail. Then run the para cord through those.

Me too.

I only buy rails (Centurion, Larue, DD Omega X) with QD points also.

What, prey tell, are the risks of a QD loop?

It’s a mechanical part that can break, rust, etc. I’ve watched guys pick up their guns with a surprised look when the sling wasn’t attached at one end.

Those things just epitomize the “how expensive and glamourous can I make attaching a sling?” movement.

If guys like them, no biggie. We can still be friends, I just hate them every way possible.

I’ve seen more knots in 550 cord fail than push button QD swivels myself.

Mostly QD attachment. I’ve had nightmares come true with the Magpul MS2 “jaw thing” releasing the QD mount it was “biting”. Of course I forgot to lock the jaw on it, but this lock is an extra step that would be needless if the design was different. (Don’t get me started on the rear attachment clasp on the MS2; it’s caught and released more often than Bill Dance!) Hopefully the MS3 clamps are better.

Snap hook loop with a mash hook.

Dont like HK hooks, and like the option to switch between 1 and 2 point with a mash hook

I prefer a rotation limited QD socket at the rear of the handguard near the front of the receiver.

I like the way it leaves the handguard clear, the rotation limiter helps keep the sling from twisting up, and prefer how it hangs. I use the ones machined into my Omega rails therefore they present a lower profile than bolted on attachments. And they are my personal preference.

There may be better methods, but this works for me, and I’m not looking for a new solution to my non-existent problem.

I was thinking the same thing! :sarcastic:

If you are that worried about mechanical parts breakage then a club would be a better choice than an M4…

I use the QD sockets.
