I am running a Mega slide lock ambi charging handle and I have found that when I run the charging handle with my support hand my index finger nail gets hung up on the lip of the forward assist.
I recall seeing a forward assist somewhere that did not have this lip, but now I can not think of what the name was.
Has anyone seen, used, or know what it it? I think it might have been made of titanium.
Forward Controls Design I believe. Either that or V7 but I’m pretty sure it’s the former. I’m considering giving one a shot as well since all of my uppers have ambi charging handles.

The one from Forward Controls is what I recommend. Anything Duffy is involved in is top notch. I have one and I have no doubt it would solve your problem.
As other have mentioned, the one from Forward Controls would be the one to go with.

I have the Forward controls FA, it’s very nice and takes care of the ambi CH clearence issue.
Why not just grind off the lip and call it a day? (while saving $36?)

kapusta, indeed you can just grind off the ledge on top and refinish it, and it would serve the same purpose. When LDFA was first conceived in 2012 or so, that was one of the considerations: buy inexpensive FAs and just machine off the ledge.
Couple of problems for us as a manufacturer: we don’t know the origin of the FA (US made? What company makes them?), and we can’t control the quality of these OEM FAs.
The LDFA is made in the USA (by Northtech Defense for Forward Controls) billet machined from 17-4 stainless steel with black oxide finish, or in Ti. There is no foreign component in the hardware or even packaging.

The old “tear drop” FA also doesn’t have a lip that catches on your finger nail or knuckle, but it’s more snag prone. Also I don’t like the straight serrations on the face of the plunger. After playing with a few serrations, we decided the concentric, circular serrations are still the most versatile, as they offer the same friction / traction regardless of angle of approach.
The two purposes for the LDFA:
It’s made for folks with ambi charging handles that don’t have uppers with forward located FA, such as Vltor’s MUR. It happens to look cool but that’s the least, and last of the details in the LDFA.

I understand your point - esp. from a manufacturing standpoint. For someone who is in the market for a FA to finish off an upper, it makes sense. I guess my comment was just directed at someone who already had a FA that was causing them problems, it would give them a cheap alternative to see if eliminating the lip would provide a solution.
No worries, your thought had occurred to me early on, that someone can easily modify a factory FA and accomplish the same goal. I’d be surprised if not a few had already done just that lol.
It is one of the conundrums that came up before I decided to bring the LDFA to market. It wouldn’t look as good and it wouldn’t be available in Ti, and it would be home made, compared to a purpose designed, billet construction and made in the US FA.
The market for LDFA is narrow because not everyone has an ambi charging handle and uses, or practices using the right latch. This I knew going in as well, but I’m staying true to my company’s mission statement even if it takes years to recoup the investment
