Hi everyone, just wondering what everyone puts down for the reason for transportation of firearms? My buddy’s got some property I like to shoot at and wanted to bring my SBR up there but he’s in another state. I was just curious what is a good reason to put down? Thanks
“All lawful purposes…” is an extremely useful phrase for most ATF form questions.
Then just put training/demonstration, recreational shooting … whatever. No need to play games. I suspect you could put anything other than “killing hippies” and they’d probably approve it.
I have never heard of ATF ever rejecting an interstate transport form unless possession of the item is unlawful in the state where you’re planning to take it.
I always put, “training, competition, recreational shooting and all other lawful purposes.”
Couple more questions for those of you going from state to state:
Question #'s are from the form
#3. Dates firearms will be away from original location:
>>>Can it be for the span of a year? I heard that somewhere so that you can continue to travel to training or competitions for the whole year.
#4. Firearms to be transported:
>>>Are suppressors to be listed on this section as well?
#7. Transporting to:
>>>Can it just be a state since I may be going to different addresses at different times?
#8. Mode of Transportation:
>>>If I’m driving it there in my personal vehicle, does this require an answer like “personal vehicle” or is it to be left blank?
I called the NFA folks and got a machine, but I’d like to get this in the mail today if possible as the class is fast approaching.
Thanks for any help.

Might be worthwhile to read the regs of the state to which you are traveling. Sometimes, possession of NFA in that state needs to be linked to a very specific activity.
NC has such a clause about research or some such…
Exactly Shivan.
For ones for NC I add ‘Scientific Research’ to mine along with, Competition, Training and Recreational Shooting for purposes.
