In early Dec (right before Sandy Hook), I purchased a Colt 6933 from an out of state dealer.
When I purchased the Colt, I supplied the dealer with all the info for my local Class 3 dealer, and they also contacted the selling dealer and gave them their info for the Form 3.
We are quickly approaching the 3 month mark, and no updated info from the seller has been forthcoming on the status.
I have ‘heard’ that Form 3 transfers were running around 6 weeks, and I am getting just a slight bit anxious about the transfer.
Have any of the resident Class 3 dealers noticed a big change in Form 3 wait times since the nuttiness started?
FTR, I am familiar with the Form 1 process, and have several home built SBRs.
This is my first foray into Form 3 and 4 territory, so I’m not familiar with the associated wait times for dealer to dealer transfers.
Should I ask the seller for an update on the Form 3, my local shop that is handling the transfer, or can I check the status myself?
If I can check it myself, what info do I need?
Sorry if some think this is irrelevant, but the OWT thread is all Form 1 and 4 threads from what I have seen…
You can call NFA branch and ask to speak with your examiner or when they answer they will ask why you are calling. You tell them you want to check the status of item xxx and give them the serial number.
I had a similar experience, I suggest calling. The form 3 that is inbound to my dealer was submitted dec 17 and no word since… I called the nfa branch with the serials of the suppressors and they said they all cleared jan 18th. Now we (my dealer) are trying to get ahold of the dealer to see what’s up
Since you’re not the transferor or transferee, they may not give you the status. But worth a shot. My F3’s have been running 3-4 weeks with Ms. Jones. So something is not right
Something is definitely not right. I had similar experiences to this with a dealer, and it turned out they were stringing me along and never had the item in the first place.
Would you mind PM’ing me the dealer name? Your experience mirrors mine almost to a T.
