I had my Form 1 returned today with a reason stating, “Law Enforcment Certification invalid or incomplete.”
They highlighted the area where they didn’t write my name as the maker and then highlighted the areas where the Sheriff is supposed to sign. The Under-Sheriff signed my paperwork in the appropriate area (BY: authorized to sign on behalf of Sheriff), so I am not sure why it doesn’t work.
I got the letter 20 minutes ago, I can’t call the ATF to clarify. Wondering of anyone else has had this issue.
Item 2 F from the Instructions page on the ATF Form 1
“If someone has specific delegated authority to sign on behalf of the Chief of Police, Sheriff, etc., this fact must be noted by printing the Chief’s, Sheriff’s, or other authorized official’s name and title, followed by the word “by” and the full signature and title of the delegated person.”
They did in the lower section where it say “by”, but didn’t put the sheriffs name or title printed in the area above.
Am I able to write the sheriffs name and title? They only highlighted the area for his printed name and title, not the signature, since the undersheriff signed in the appropriate spot.
Yeh, just fill it out and initial/date it. I had something similar happen with a Form 1. I called my examiner (Dana Pickles) and asked him. He was very helpful. I corrected it according to his advice, mailed it back and my stamp arrived about 7 days later.
