I did a search but 9 pages into it I could not find my answer. I have a few questions on the form 1.
on section 3b Do I put my first middle and last name? Or is just my first and last acceptable? Also on 3b, can things such as South, avenue, or my state be abbreviated?
Section 4h, additional description. Do I not fill it out or do I put my name and location that will be engraved on the lower in this section?
1d model. In the case of a colt 6920. Will I put the model as a 6920, or is it just ar15?
What you put on the form has nothing to do with what you engrave. In fact, the ATF will almost certainly never know what you engrave.
So yeah, put your whole name on there, and don’t use abbreviations. The latter is probably no big deal, but they are far more likely to kick it back to you for not enough info rather than too much.
Yes, they’re talking about manufacturers model, so you’d put 6920.
Section 4h, I think the assumption is that you should put what you’re going to engrave, so I put my full name, and city/state without abbreviations. Some people say leave it blank, but again they aren’t going to send it back to you for too much accurate information. What I actually engrave, however, is what the law requires…first name (or first initial…I’ve done it both ways), last name, city, state as normally abbreviated. And I engrave with tiny lettering inside the trigger well.
Yes, a few problems with that at current though. I’m fairly certain they do not work Saturdays or sundays or really any overtime at all. So I looked around to find what resources I did have at the time. So I came here knowing there were many people here having filled out the paper work, and assuming at least one may know. They may have called the atf, or made a mistake similar to me. Or maybe even are just a bit smarter than me.
And as for model. I wanted to know if I go by what the general population calls it (I don’t think that’s a crazy unreasonable assumption) Or do I go by M4 as marked on one lower, or do I go by law enforcement carbine as marked on another. Or do I go by what the manufacturer calls it? A 6920.
Yes. In my case I want to use the m4 carbine marked lower. Just so I am 100% clear. I do not use the manufacturer model number of le6920. Instead I use the m4 carbine mark on the actual lower?
It just seems odd. The manufacturer lists the model as 6920, the box says it. For all purposes that’s what the model is. But I suppose in the end the actual mark is the actual mark
According to the manufacturers website, the box the gun came with, yes. Don’t remember what the 4473 said. But I would assume le6920 But according to whats actually on the gun. It says M4 Carbine. And here sits my confusion.
I brought up another 6920 that’s says law enforcement carbine instead of m4 carbine. As they are both le6920, but whats actually on the gun is different.
I will most likely be calling the NFA branch of the batf on monday. Not trying to doubt you. I assume you have done this plenty more than I. But do you have a source that states this? I tried and failed to look up the batf’s definition of model. I found nothing though
That was the point I was making. The SBR’s I have seen as well as my own were done using what was actually stamped onto the lower. The BCM was called Model BCM4 as I recall and the other which is different was marked Model M4A1. I called it exactly that.
Hey, the weekend is only half over… you could start this exact thread on a few more forums and see what comes up.
Obviously it doesn’t matter if Colt changes their catalog # from “LE6920” to “Mayor McCheese” for a week or a month… so long as they are marking the receivers the same. The whole point is to match the firearm with the form down the road, if necessary.
Now, with that having been said, you can screw it up and it will still get approved. On BATFE eForms you will select the model number from an existing list, or you can create a new model number.
The pre-existing list for MFG:Noveske contains the word “CHAINSAW” as a model… which we all know is not.
I did ask this same question on another forum. Did not think it would hurt any ones feelings. It seems on a couple forums I go to I tend to get a lot of BS, are member with a high and mighty attitude. So it made sense to ask 2 places to help weed through it.
My concern/confusion was the manufacturers model number 6920 has not changed also, while the role marks on the receivers have. But what you guys are saying makes sense as nowhere on the receiver can I find le6920
