I am looking at building a bolt action rifle but want a compact setup. What options are there for folding stocks for precision rifles?
XLR chassis with the folding attachment would be one good choice.
McMillan, Manners, or KRG. I am sure there are others but these are the ones I have used in the past.
I have a McRees Precision folding chassis and am very happy with it.
+1 for the McRees precision. The stock locks up great in both the open and closed position and it’s an all round quality product.
what’s your budget?
I like my bolt guns more “tradional” so I use manners folding stocks. the folding mechanism is great, solid and it uses a qd cup to lock the stock folded so it doesn’t flop open.
If you want a chassis, The XLR element is about as good as they come for the money.
If you have big budget and want a chassis, go with Cadex
Of course AI 2.0 stocks. You might even be able to find the original versions 2nd hand since there are the newer versions out now.
With the caveat that I’m not a bolt gun guy, I’ll say that I’ve got experience with Manners, AI and KRG (in terms of aftermarket), and ended up with a KRG on my rifle. Lightweight, no need for bottom metal, and does everything I want it to (other than stick a PVS22 on the front). I don’t have a folder, but I’ve heard they’re comparable. I almost went with Manners but, while very solid, they are pretty heavy, not what I was going for.
Manners makes one:

Partial to the XLR Element chassis with folder. Have this with a Tikka action in 6.5CM. Although the new Ruger Precision is looking promising, bit more bulk though but solid.
Wait for the new desert tech
I have a XLR Element with the folding stock. Its good, but I am going to try a mcree next time. Nothing wrong with the xlr, but I have two of their stocks already and want to try a different one. Both have very good reviews.
I have a KRG Whiskey 3 folder on a Remington 700 action. I love this stock not only because the folding system is rock solid. The adjustability options are great and the rifle fits me like a glove.
The new Ruger Precision Rifle folds…
JP makes a folding chassis as well: http://jprifles.com/1.2.6.1_AMCS.php
have you tried a Desert Tech out before? you should look into them. no need for a folding stock
