So I’ve got a Noveske 12.5 upper do I have to contact the ATF if I live in Montana and take a class in Oregon? Sorry if this question has been asked a million times but could not find anything in the search engine.![]()
You need to get an approved 5320.20 form in hand before taking to another state and it has to be legal to own/possess in the place(s) you’ll be traveling through as well as the destination.
I thought that the 1986 NFA screw you law the halted production of civilian MG’s had a provision that allowed safe passage through non-NFA states if you had the form approved and were traveling from one NFA state to another NFA state, or am I remembering things wrong?
I hadn’t heard that, it’s very possible that it might have. I’ve never looked into that as I figured if NFA wasn’t legal there and you’re just passing through, having NFA stuff in your possession wouldn’t be too wise. Where I take my SBRs out of state are states where SBRs are legal. (WV, NC, KY, PA and through MD)
Thanks “GotM4” for always answering my never ending spew of questions. I knew you needed the form for MG’s but not SBR’s. Seems like a serious hassle.
You need the 5320.20 Form for MGs, SBRs, SBS, AOWs and I think DDs. Not required for suppressors so long as they’re legal where you going (and probably need to be legal where you’ll be passing through).
