I just purchased my SLP and was wondering if I could get some advice from those have experience with this particular gun. I am using it for 3 Gun and Home Defense.
First time I took it out, it was not cycling consistently which leads me to believe it was the ammo I was using.
Which loads does this guy like best?
What choke should I use for slugs?
Really anything advice you can give me as far as ammo, break-in cycle, etc, would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
I use a FN SLP Mk1. For 3 gun for birdshot I used the Browning Gold Sporting Clays piston available from Brownells for about $90 (it’s made for 1-1/8oz or lighter loads) and use the cheap Federal 1-1/8oz loads of 7-1/2 birdshot 2-3/4" shells. For buckshot and slugs I use the FN ‘light’ piston (made for 1-1/2oz loads or lighter) and use Federal Truball slugs. The springs are pretty stiff in a FN shotgun so it’s best to lock the bolt to the rear for a week or so. When shooting the gun run it very wet like an AR15 should be.
I use 3 different extended Briley chokes for 3gun. I use an Improved Cylinder, a Light Modified and a Skeet. For slugs the Improved Cylinder seems the most accurate in my shotgun.

So you are saying I have to spend more money. 
I was using Winchester Universal 1200 f.p.s. 7 1/2 shot 3dram 1 1/8 oz. from Walmart the first time I went out when I was having trouble.
I am going to try a few more loads today:
Federal High Velocity Game Loads 7/8 oz. 3 1/2.dram 1400 f.p.s.
Remington Game Loads 1 oz shot 1290 f.p.s.
Federal Rifled Slugs 1 oz. 1610 f.p.s.
Are these going to cycle, and or harm my gun in any way?
I am using the light piston and the choke with the 4 notches. Let me know if that is a problem in any way.

Those all should cycle no problem with the standard 1-1.5oz or lighter piston just fine. That’s a lot of velocity. Just run it very wet. I think the four notch is a full choke, I can’t remember.
I am a little confused on this as well, but it is the one it shipped with.
4 Notch (pattern according to the manual):
w/lead - Improved Cylinder
w/steel - Modified
Can you blow the gun up if you shoot slugs with the wrong choke?
You can shoot slugs through a full choke, but many times they won’t be very accurate. However some guns will shoot slugs through full chokes just fine. I shoot mine through the Imp Cyl and Lght Mod and they are pretty accurate. A tiny bit more accurate with the Imp Cyl. Your FN uses Browning Invector chokes tubes, handy if you decide to get aftermarket extended ones.
Just fyi, all those loads worked flawlessly today. Although the test was a little rushed, those slugs seemed to be poa/poi out to 100 yds too.
