FN/SGC TPS Shotgun ?

I saw this shotgun at sgcusa.com. What do all of you shotgun guru’s think of this offer. It is based on a Winchester 1300. I have an old 1300 and I love it. My wife love’s to shoot it and is pretty good with it. I know it is not a Remy 870p but I get to play with those at work.

I just picked one up last weekend to try out. With FN TPS shotguns being sold on Gunbroker for $799, I figured it was a great deal. I’m local to SCG so I went in and talked to the sales guy there. He said they bought quite a few truckloads of FN TPS shotgun parts and were authorized to build/sell them. They are exactly the same as the now discontinued FN TPS except they have an “X” after the serial number. They’re still all FN parts and marked as such. Even the manual is the original FN manual. I think it’s a great deal, however I have a couple things to complain about. First is I have to be creative in finding a front sling mount. The mag tube cap has a sling mount, but being flush with the end of the barrel, I’m hesitant about mounting a sling there. Evidently this is a Winchester 1300 thing. Second and probably the most important for me is the trigger housing is all plastic. I bought this on kind of a whim without doing much research. Had I known the trigger housing was plastic, I may have passed on this deal. The housing is unique to the TPS for mounting AR15 handguards and since the TPS is discontinued by FN, getting a replacement down the road may be a problem. I replaced the out dated CAR stock for an EMOD I had lying around and replaced the A2 grip for a MIAD. Unfortunately while trying to punch out the trigger guard roll pin to install a Magpul trigger guard, I broke one of the plastic ears. I just dropped it off to SGC today for repair. I was hoping to buy one or two extra trigger housings for backup, but they are already installed in the receivers so they don’t have those spare parts lying around.

Reddevil,

Thanks for the info. I was going to buy one before my gun money got used up. I like the new stock on yours. I was thinking of just adding a thick rubber butt pad Brownells sells to lessen the recoil, Have you gone to the range to try it out yet. I am still thinking of buying it.

Have not shot it yet. I broke off one of the trigger guard ears trying to install a Magpul trigger guard. Cost me $50 for SGC to replace it. I plan to to sell it now. I don’t like the idea of owning a weapon with obsolete parts. If the trigger housing wasn’t plastic, it wouldn’t bother me, but I’m rough with my weapons and don’t want a useless shotgun 10 years down the road. Now I understand why they’re selling them so cheap.

Sorry about your misfortune. I also would not own a firearm that was not durable. Hopefully you will get some your money back. I have been in your shoes before.
