Haven’t found much info on these, but I’ve seen them advertised at PSA and PK Firearms. Anybody have any info on these? Good, bad, meh? I’m looking to shoot out to 300yards. I have a couple of “fighting AR’s” and would like to have something more precision oriented. Was considering one of these barrels.
Bump, I’m curious as well. I’ve been considering that PSA upper.
Never heard of these, but man is that FN 10.5 beggin me to buy it. :eek:

Hammer forged stainless? WTF!? Isnt the point of the stainless steel match barrel is that its precision cut and isnt hammer forging less precise?
Except for the whole assembled by PSA thing. :rolleyes:
Many European rifle builders known for great accuracy have been using hammer forged barrels for a long time. It’s a complicated discussion.
That’s the point of some SS barrels like Kreiger, etc.
My Rem 700 has a Hammer Forged barrel on it, and it’s every bit of precision.
So why would I want to get a stainless steel barrel if its not match grade when CMV chrome lined barrels are far more durable.
You raise an interesting point. Nowhere in any of the descriptions I’ve seen for these barrels, does the word “match” come up. I’m so ingrained to see any reference to an SS barrel, must also mean “match”.
I do wonder what benefits, if any, the CHF 410SS barrel would have over it’s CMV C/L brethren. Also, since it’s CHF, does that mean it’s “tougher” (however that’s defined) than a non-CHF SS barrel? Is the accuracy better than a C/L barrel, but more durable long term over a non CHF SS barrel?
I don’t see doing a SS barrel with a 5.56 chamber.
I suspect its more a matter of FN having the tooling availible than thats the best way to make a barrel. With how expensive hammer forges are when they aren’t runnings its costing you money.
I will get my FN 10.5 inch - Gov’t Profile - Basic Upper tomorrow for a pistol/SBR build from PK. I will keep you guys posted.

That’s the joke. CHF is used because it’s an economical way to turn out large numbers of barrels. For awhile, Remington kept it secret that many of it’s Model 700 rifles with it’s well earned reputation for accuracy were fitted with hammer forged barrels.
CHF barrels are NOT inherently LESS accurate.
Stainless steel barrels are NOT inherently MORE accurate.
Who has shot out a stainless steel barrel and how many rounds did it take? How many have shot out any kind of barrel, what was it made of and how many rounds did it take? I’ve got over 2500 rounds through my stainless steel barrel with no noticeable loss in performance. Not very many rounds, I grant you, but the way some carry on about how fragile stainless steel barrels are, I’m surprised I go that many!

Just a note/clarification- I removed “This discussion is not about “match” barrels anyway.” in my post above while the other guys were quoting it. Re-reading the OP I decided that this thread might very well be about match barrels since the OP is interested in accurate 300m shooting.

I’ve been spending too much the last few weeks… but damn is that barrel tempting.
PK’s just a short drive from my home. Lot’s of good stuff … They’ve kept me well stocked with Knight’s rifles. 
I thought cold hammer forging was preferred for high round count barrels because work hardening of the barrel made it stronger compared to button rifling. Also, FN’s SPR bolt guns have CHF stainless barrels which by all accounts are plenty accurate.
They’re also chrome plated. I have one and it’s a .5 moa gun.
FNHUSA uses chromoly barrels that are CHF and hard chrome lined.
Yes, they are accurate. But not any more so than some Rem 700s, some Savages, etc.
Rem 700s (not sure if ALL of them) are hammer forged. I’m pretty sure SAVAGE is button rifled.
