Florida gun owners and CCW holders beware

Looks like I won’t be getting my permit anytime soon. Hope this isn’t a repost.

Call, write or e-mail the Governor and express your concern.

"Obviously fearing the Governor would use his line-item veto to stop trust fund raids, proviso language was inserted in the bill in a clear attempt to intimidate the Governor.

The proviso language, states that if any portion of the moneys swept from this and other trust funds does not become law (meaning it is vetoed), that portion of the money shall be deducted from the EDUCATION BUDGET. This is clearly designed to keep the Governor from vetoing trust fund sweeps, and prevent trust fund money from being taken back out the House leadership’s so-called “working capital” fund. "

That’s not much of a line item veto if you can get away with that? Call spending the $6m a ‘jobs creation’ program.

I’ll worry about it when mine expires in 3 years. Besides, that office is giving priority to folks renewing their CCW permit, which it has stated publicly several times. If you are a first time applicant, then I’d be worried…

That seems a bit selfish.

So the heck with everyone else I guess??? The fact that they are doing this with the funds should be of concern to everyone in this(FL)state. They should not be allowed to do this to any funding budgeted for any specific purpose. Besides first time applicants are our future foot soldiers in the never ending fight to keep our gun rights. I’ll be emailing calling and writing everyone I can.

Bump.

Failure to renew existing licenses in the proper time will create issues with people who believe they are licensed properly and carry on an existing license that has expired for no reason other than this and no fault of their own. Priority is rightly given to renewals, IMO.

Agreed on the BS of all this though, this is f-ed up and I hope that everyone takes the time to contact Crist instead of putting it off as they are not directly affected right now. I’m not affected at the moment but I still contacted the governor. It only takes a few minutes.

No that is not my opinion. Just stated my situation and the department’s priority to reissue CCW permits for the reason stated by Palmguy.

Agreed. They should not be allowed to seize and divert funds, especially from this department. Since the election of the new POTUS, applications have increased 10 fold, especially among Seniors. They need to hire more workers to get through the gigantic pile of back logged applications. FYI, I have forwarded this link to several people, as well as gun ranges I frequent, who teach CCW Classes.

This is another excellent example of why I do not support the idea of requiring a permit to purchase, own, or carry a firearm.

It’s FAR to easy for government to implement a defacto ban with a permit system.

Especially since the money in the fund comes from gun owners applying for or renewing permits. It doesn’t come from the government.

I’ve said the same only to be ridiculed. Now, seven years later, here we are…

I don’t take the whole PERMIT thing too seriously.

I carried for YEARS before AZ even had a permit system… And I didn’t bother getting mine until years after AZ did have CCW.

Permit? I don’t need no STINKING permit!

I heard about this earlier this week and sent an email to the governor’s office as well.

I just got my renewal this week. I sent an e-mail to the governor.

Charlie got a note to check that legislation at the door… File it in the circular file cabinet… Deep six it…

The best thing is, now we get to see what our newly announced Senatorial candidate has to offer!

Our legislators in the states and DC are acting like they can do what ever they want to with no consequences. Oh, I forgot about the counties and cities as well.
It is about time for “we the people” to get mad  and bring about some real “CHANGE”!!!

I requested a FL out of state carry license application packet about 2 months ago and never received anything. I read how they are backlogged and figured they have been too busy and probably out of stock on the forms.

Anyone else request the packet and not get it?

That is an excellent point, however, do you feel that anyone is entitled to carry a concealed weapon? Do you feel there should be disqualifying criteria? If so, how does one prevent disqualified individuals from carrying?

Jay

Does the fact that it is against the law stop disqualified individuals now? If not, why not?

You’re absolutely right, I worded that very poorly. Let me rephrase:

Should anyone be able to legally carry a concealed weapon? If not, how do you propose that this is policed? The same way that someone driving on a suspended license is, i.e. you catch them and they face the legal system?

I hope I’m not coming off as an antagonist, that isn’t my intent. I’m just curious about people’s positions. I’ve found that listen to others with differing views helps to inform me and refine my opinions.

Jay

In FL, CCW permits are an exclusive club for ONLY law abiding citizens. You have to do state finger print checks, state background check, send in the app and pay the fee. If you have a criminal record, domestic abuse charge, or other disqualifying factor, it’s a NO GO for you.

A disqualified individual (Criminal or non licensed non criminal) can still carry, but they are breaking the law. Short of seizing all firearms, there is nothing a government can do if criminals and determined folks, carry without a permit, despite the law, until they are caught. The CCW Permit gives law biding citizens a level playing field with the criminals.

The Castle Doctrine has been extended to vehicle owners, meaning, you can have a gun in your vehicle without a permit, and if car jacked, you can defend, without a an obligation to retreat, just like your home, but it must stay in your car, in a separate compartment, in a holster with a retention strap.
