I booked a round trip ticket from Killeen Tx to Manila.
The lion’s share of the flying was via Japan Airlines.
On my way back home Japan Airlines refused to let me board because my lay over in Japan was 22 hrs and 30 minutes.
Tried to call Expedia, no answer.
I had to call American Airlines and purchase a whole new ticket.
So how do I get my money back from Expedia for messing this up?
Don’t know why that would be an issue? I could see with international/overseas flights you might have to wait almost a whole day for a flight, since they are often once-a-day affairs.
Frankly, UNited has forced me to take 22+ hour lay-overs before, but weather/equipement issues.
I assume DFW-NRT-MNL and back?
I find Flyertalk.com to be the M4C when it comes to travel stuff.
Well I didn’t mind, the Japanese Government did.
I couldn’t stay that long in Japan so they refused to honor my ticket.
???
Are you not a US citizen?
Yeah, that doesn’t make sense? I’ve had some really long layovers (20hrs+) at Narita International in Tokyo and even spent a night and a half (36hrs+) sleeping on a bench in Beijing International waiting in my last leg into Malaysia once.
Never had issues trying with Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, etc. after extended layovers anywhere in Asia. A US Passport typically opens doors anywhere I am internationally.
I’d definitely follow up with the travel service, airline, or US customs. What actual reason did they give you?
It’s got to do with Covid restrictions and testing compliant with Japan’s guidelines. If you can’t produce a compliant test result they will deny boarding.
ETA: Expedia or the carrier SHOULD have told you what you needed to have to successfully board your flight at the time of booking.
I know options are likely limited, but don’t fly though countries or on airlines with such restrictions. They’ll eventually feel the impact and change stupid policies. I can’t help you with expedia, but you’re very luckly to be granted a “voucher” which isn’t a refund in my view. I have a voucher from a small airline I’ll never be able to use and in fact wouldn’t use because they are just that bad.
Interested to see the outcome from expedia. My experience with them has been so-so.
Can’t you do a credit charge dispute?
This is what i came to say. If you cant get anywhere with the airline or Expedia, this is your only option
I have a compliance test. You virtually can’t fly international without one.
