Hundreds gathered on South Street Saturday evening during the city’s latest “Flash Mob” incident.

Philadelphia Police are searching for suspects in involved in at least two assaults during a massive flash mob on South Street over the weekend.

Surveillance video shows hundreds of people invading the intersection of 8th and South Streets, filling the street and surrounding a vehicle at about 9 p.m. Saturday.

Two blocks away, Olympia Pizza employee Seth Kaufman said he was beaten by a crowd attempting to enter the store.

“40 to 50 punches I took. 20 kicks. I just stood my ground as best I could and fought them off,” Kaufman said.

Kaufman and restaurant operator Paul Psihogios were trying to keep the unruly crowd from entering the business.

“I’m just trying to hold off the crowd, hold the door,” said Psihogios.

At 15th and South Street, a 27-year-old woman was brutally attacked after being surrounded by scores of people.

“She had a broken nose and they knocked out two teeth,” said Good Samaritan Rick Almeid, who aided the victim. “She was just an innocent young girl.”

Police eventually pushed the crowd up South Street and onto on to Broad Street, yelling that once curfew passed, they’d start loading up buses.

Authorities say they got word through text messages that a flash mob might be forming and quickly deployed.

Three males were arrested on unrelated incidents, including 18-year-old Parrish Kendall.

No arrests have been made in the beatings.

Police say they vow not to allow these incidents to repeat.

“We’re going to be stern, we’re going to be swift and to be honest with you, we’re going to do what we have to do to protect the city,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

No major damage was reported during this latest flash mob incident.

Always be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to protect yourself. If I was surrounded by a bunch of people hitting & kicking me for no apparent reason it would get real loud, real quick.

I had a group of misguided youths try to stop my car one night after my shift ended. There was a group of about 10 of them. One of the female members tried to get me to stop, while the male members began to come out in the street and yell at me as well. At that time, all I could do was hit the gas and hope no one got in the way.

Back then, mid 1990’s, all I carried was my S&W model 36. And my cell phone was a large brick phone that was in my trunk for whatever reason.

That was a wake up call. Not sure what I would do with ten times the number. At least I learned to carry more than that snubby, and always have my phone with me.

So usually these flash mob groups (who must not have jobs to be able to do this kinda shit in the middle of the day – go to work people) are performing some kind of stupid activity. A dance move, all lay down, or anything retarded but usually harmless and somewhat humorous to I guess get attention and feel like part of a group. So what was this mob’s purpose? Punching innocent citizens and creating a public disturbance? What a bunch of ass clowns.

I’m with you irish; if I start getting violently attacked by a mob of people, there would be at about 12 other people having a very bad day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Investigators say a massive snowball fight outside City Hall between 100 teens spilled into a popular department store and ended with 14 arrests.

The entire ordeal began when approximately 100 teens engaged in a gigantic snowball fight outside Philadelphia’s City Hall Tuesday evening.

Shortly afterwards, the unruly mob then rolled into the Macy’s Department Store located in the 1300 block of Market Street.

Once inside, customers told Eyewitness News total chaos ensued.

“A couple kids were shoving and pushing and people started throwing shoes at each other. Someone threw a sign over someone’s head,” Eyewitness Brianne Bee said.

Customers inside the store said the incident lasted between five to 10 minutes.

A 16-year-old girl was arrested for allegedly kicking a 15-year-old boy in the face as other teens held him down outside the store. The 15-year-old is listed in stable condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Similar to the “flash mobs” near South Street in June 2009, investigators believe Tuesday’s brawl might have been organized on the internet.

According to investigators, many of the teens involved in the incident attend Simon Gratz High School.

All of the teens are facing charges of disorderly conduct, while some are facing assault charges.

No innocent bystanders were injured. The incident remains under police investigation.

dont underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. and if your not prepared to handle that many fight your way to more weapons or another force multiplier.

I lived in South Philly in 1991 for about one year, back when it was still tolerable. The street I lived on just off of 7th is now completely overrun by…everything. Most of South Philly has been overrun, yet unbelievably it is still not as bad as North and West Philly. They are un-drivable warzones.

The old Philadelphia from Rocky is almost dead. About the only thing left resembling it on the south side is the 9th street market, which looks exactly the same.

I resent those pieces of shit for destroying our city, as well as many others. So much so in fact that unacceptable terms are about to slip out, so off I go.

Actually I was saying that in 1991 it was not as bad, but it certainly had it’s problems make no mistake. No big deal though.

In South Africa during apartheid era we had groups of ANC that would hide at intersections with bricks and rocks and ambush random vehicles with whites. They would try and swarm the vehicle while pelting it and then pull you out and kill you. In those days I carried a Mossberg pump with SSG anytime I had to go into or near the townships.

Sounds like the future here as (the angry) minorities take over sections of cities.

I was in Philly quite a bit in the early 90s, had friends that went to Drexel, went to concerts there all the time. Everyone that I knew that lived there moved long ago because of crime. It is sad because it used to be a great place.

I want all of you to go back in time and think about this for a second…imagine the kind of folks who used to walk the streets of Philadelphia. Yes, the names that many of you thought of are now just about legendary. Now, you may come back to reality and feel great sadness.

I have two memories of Philadelphia. The counties party their in 1976 celebrating the bicentennial. Had a good time.

And the outbreak of Legionnaires disease in the hotel I stayed in on a business trip shortly before the tragedy.

Never been back since.
