Flared Mag Wells

Noveske, DD, S&W, and now Spikes all feature lowers with flared mag wells. Are there any other sources of forged lowers with flared wells?

HK.

C4

Lancer L15.

edit: oops didn’t see you specified forged.

Rainier Arms.

Good price too!!!

I think there is a notable difference between altering the angle of the magwell cut, and actually flaring it out.

YHM…

I agree.

May want to look at www.accuratearmory.com

OK, that’s an interesting response. As I’m compiling parts for a carbine build I’ve got most of my decisions made except for the lower. So what is the difference between altering the angle and actually flaring it out? More importantly, what is the significance of the difference?

yup

I believe the new Noveske is the only one to alter the design of the lower to incorporate a truly flared magwell. The others have simply angled the inside edge of the magwell opening.

I believe my Sun Devil had one too.

Nice photo, thanks. It looks like beveling the inside edge would be somewhat helpful with mag insertion. Better than nothing.

A “bevel” would be the Daniel Defense or (apparently) the Accurate Armory posted above where the outside dimensions of the lower are not changed. This would be along the lines of stickman’s “altering the angle”. A “flare” would be something like the Noveske where the actual outside dimension of the lower is changed.

This is not a judgment on one being better than another. Just understand that there are pros and cons associated with each.

Agreed, for someone who hates anything other than the “milspec look”, the Noveske may not be anything they can palate.

Gotcha. Thanks to you and Rob both. This is why I ask here and not on TOS.
The Accurate Armories do look nice. Another option to consider.

New spikes lower is more than a bevel, it is actually flared. Not as much as that noveske tho. I have an older and newer spikes lower to compare. Seems to be slightly wider than the standard one.

Photos?

Do this and we have a winner.

You’d need a beefed-up, integral trigger guard to compensate.
