fixed blade in 154cm or D2 steel?

hey guys,

looking at picking up a Benchmade Nimravus. available in 154cm or D2 steel. read that the D2 has better edge retention for hard use but less corrosion resistance. 154cm being stainless and D2 semi-stainless.

any opinions/suggestions? experiences with either/both steels?

thx.

i personally prefer the D2. edge retention is an important quality in a hard use knife, and i havent had any problem with corrosion

You shouldn’t have any problems with D2. How many rusted knives do you own?

Only knife I ever had rust is a spydeco that gets wet when my car door opens and its raining. My fault not the steel

bGoode- I went to your website, do you build your own knives? You have some awesome stuff!

no rusted knives…ha! i’m too anal. just getting hung up on the details of this blade steel vs that blade steel. just not sure if D2 is necessary on a 4.5" blade. i’ve read it’s recommended for 6" plus. thoughts?

what steel do you use in your own knives?

thx.

Depends…what are you going to do with the blade? If you think you will use it hard, and if you hate to sharpen knives, get the D2, and pay someone else to sharpen it once it eventually dulls. If you enjoy the art of sharpening knives, get the 154cm as it is a good steel and easier to sharpen, and reprofile if you want.
