In reading and rereading this, I am wondering if this phenomenon is due to the material the Brakeout is made from or the design of the brake? Is the Brakeout made from the same material as the Blackout?

Same material as the BLACKOUT flash hider.

The designs of the BRAKE (2 “brake” surfaces) and the BRAKEOUT (“brake” surface) put flat surfaces perpendicular to the flow of gas/powder and therefore “catch” some of this blast before it hits the first baffle of the suppressor.

Durability, weight, and length are primary concerns for me, and after reading your posts and reccomendations, I’m leaning harder than ever towards AAC, and the M4-2000 in particular. It seems the mounting system, construction, etc make it a good choice for my 10.5". It’s also lighter weight and shorter than many of the others.

I got a quote from a somewhat local dealer for an M4-2000 with mount, tax, etc included for $985. It’s in stock, so all I’ll have to do is fill out the paperwork and send it off with the check and wait. Seems like a pretty good deal. Thoughts?

RD62 that is a pretty decent price considering more than a year ago I purchased one @ a little less when the 51 tooth mount was included.

I’d say if that’s the OTD price with a 51 tooth mount, that’s about the lowest you’ll find. LOCK IT IN MAN!

I bought the M4-2000 Mod 8 primarily because of the cool ads…wait for flame…wait…

No, I bought it because of the reported durability of the materials it is made of and the price when compared to surefire cans.

Right now I’m starting to test POI shifts on a 14.5 at 100 yds and up but can’t make a determination just yet.

Paid a hair over $900 for my Surefire 556k. Which I thought was a good deal. It is my first can. After a lot of research for what to put on my 10.5 Noveske I picked the Surefire. I think LAV likes Surefire’s if I am not mistaken. USMC Jeff btw another very good article.

Most people also wind up rather surprised at the weight, and the impact that weight has on fatigue hanging out there off the end of the barrel. Not to mention reliability issues they can cause. I’ve never been in a carbine class where someone has started and ended the class with a can on, and most don’t last a whole day.

A little late into this one, but are they really that problematic or unreliable? I understand the weight issues and their inherent ability to get dirty, but having never shot a can, nor shot with anyone who owns one, I didn’t realize it was this way.

In the standard “train like you fight” way, if I am going to run a can on my SBR, I’d certainly like to train the way I am going to run it, particularly in a carbine class.

I would certainly like to hear more thoughts on this. TIA.

The reasons for the removal of the can have varied, from weight issues to reliability issues.

Anyone know the weight difference between Govt profile 10.5" and 16" barrels?

I just got my paperwork from my dealer for my M4-2000, but in a couple months when I can finally pick it up I’ll weigh my 10.5" LMT upper with can and DD 7.0 Omega and my 16" BCM Middy with 9.0 Omega. I’m thinking they’ll be pretty close.
