Stag Model2. Used to shoot Colt m-16 when I was in the U.S. Coast Guard. Havent shot one in 5 years! Can’t wait! I added a few things to it also. Currently waiting on a DD M-16 bolt in the mail! Hope I did well. Sorry for the pic quailty.
Looks great! Now get out, shoot it, and have some fun.
Thanks! Now if I could just decide between the Eotech 516 or the CompML3…I would be a happy camper
I ordered mine on Thursday and decided to go with the EOTech but I don’t have any experience with either so I can’t be much help there.
Pass on the Eoturd, I mean Eotech. Go with the Aimpoint you won’t be sorry.
If I go with AImpoint I am going to get the Larue LT150. Should I get it low or high riser?
most guys like the 1/3rd cowitness, which is a high mount. i personally dig an absolutely cowitness, which is low mount
question for OP or anyone else: what’s with leaving the front handguard cap on? doesn’t that thing come loose and rattle around in basically no time?
You may want to consider getting a punch and removing the original sling attachment. ![]()
I don’t know…I just left it on there. It is tight and I just followed the directions from the DD rail book. It didn’t specify to take it off? Anyone know about this with and Omega rail?
Side note: the sling attatchment doesn’t interfere with the light projection…I thought it would to., but it didn’t:)
most guys leave it on, it’s just something i’ve wondered about and never asked. i cut 'em off.
I left it on there also in case I wanted to ever put the original handguards back on there. …due to selling or something. That is one advantage of the DD Omega rail:)
Looks good so far. Since you have the side-swivel attachment point I would just remove the bottom one. No sense in it banging into the X300 and making unnecessary noise.
I would also second the Aimpoint over the EOthingy. Turn on the Aimpoint and leave it on. Every January throw a new battery in there and you have no worries. The Larue mount is bomb-proof and also look into ADM. They make solid shit as well.
What’s the price difference?
Nice Stag. I’m happy with mine, although the bolt carrier didn’t have the greatest staking job. Easily remedied though. Only have about 500 flawless rounds through her…

I have the 517 AA batteries instead of the CR123. You will get a 1/3 co-witness right out of the box.
I originally picked up the EOTech 512, returned it because of the buttons on the back and the true co-witness. I realized right away that I like having my dot off of the front sight post. Also the buttons were hard to reach with just one hand, now I can just use my left hand for turning on and level adjustments.
As far as the EOTech vs Aimpoint; A good review of both by an Aimpoint fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF6fGJiXoNA
I really think the EOTech vs Aimpoint thing is almost like the Ford vs Chevy argument. Sort of beating a dead horse. In any case I really like the reticle of the EOTech along with the POV seeming more open then the Aimpoint. For me the EOTech is a faster sight as I can pick up that 65MOA circle and 1MOA dot easier then just a 2 or 4 MOA dot.
Like others have said, I would go with an Aimpoint over an Eotech. The battery life is significantly longer. I’ve also seen a couple places where Pat Rogers said he likes the Aimpoint over the Eotech. I don’t have the most experience out there so I respect those that have been around much longer and have more knowledge than me like he does.
I like eotechs. They have a 1 moa dot and are very fast on target.
I would use a Larue or G&R mount/optic combo. Depending on which EOthingy you wanted they are anywhere from $480-600.
Aimpoint M2/ ML2 or an M3/ ML3 for anywhere between $550-600 and the M4/ M4S up to mid $700’s.
I personaly feel that the T1 in a Larue mount for $640 or an ADM mount for $608 is the best bang-for-your-buck on the market right now.
For only $50-100 more (depending on which model you choose) the Aimpoint beats the EO hands down in durability, battery life, quality glass, etc…
I personally have had 3 EO’s shit the bed and that was before I was an LEO and really beating the hell out of my kit. My Aimpoints handle SWAT call-outs, warrants, training classes, patrol use, banging around in the trunk of the patrol car, and during an Active Shooter training one of them even took a Sims round from three feet away at about a 45 degree angle to the front glass. Just wiped it off and kept on gunnin’ ![]()
You won’t be disappointed!
