i have been shooting AR’s for a few years now but only plink, target shoot and have fun at the range. this year i would like to stop my bad habits and learn how to shoot better and defend myself and loved ones efficiently. can anyone point me in the direction of a class to take for a beginner? i have a sort of bum leg and full on running is impossible. also, a very high round count isn’t feasible for me due to cost of ammo. i say this because magpul’s requirement is 1500 rds plus 200 rds of pistol ammo. vicker’s class is around 800 rds and no pistol which is doable for me.
I might suggest a pistol class first. It may be a secondary weapon, but you’ll want the skills when you do transitions in a carbine class.
Some schools (e.g. InSights Training Center, whom I can personally strongly recommend) have a prerequisite of pistol training before you take their rifle classes for that and other reasons.
Beyond that, there’s a lot of good advice in this thread: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=31612
ok John, thank you. i’ll check that out first then. i did notice a couple courses didn’t using a pistol at all but most do require it.
