I completed this build several weeks ago. Rifle was built for fun, range shooting and so that I could have a project to work on and learn more about AR’s. I’m waiting on BUIS for now, plan is to get Bobro. I went cheap on the red dot (Primary Arms) because I had never shot with a red dot and I didn’t want to spend $700+ for an Aimpoint and a mount only to figure out that I don’t like tiny red dots and then have to go through the effort of selling it…I’m happy to spend $100 on the Primary Arms red dot to help me figure out if I want to spend the money for the Aimpoint or if I want to go a different route all together.
I’ve been to the range but haven’t done any real accuracy testing yet. I was at the range (50 yrd only) with a buddy who has never shot an AR before. Buddy was running my other rifle until I gave the all clear on this build. So my time was spent answering questions, getting a new AR shooter comfortable, function checking the new rifle and getting my red dot zeroed. After that it was basically just screwing around and making noise. I’m waiting for some nicer weather so that I can hit an outdoor range and spend some quality time with this rifle.
So far, and with limited trigger time, I’m very happy with all the parts that I used. Huge fan of using a small/light red dot. I’m definitely going to upgrade to the Aimpoint in the future when funds are available. This build is pretty light and even though I haven’t weighed it on an accurate scale yet, it feels like it’s around 6 lbs. All I know is that it’s way lighter and more balanced than my other AR. And louder…The Surefire break is loud with a huge fireball. Almost caught me off guard the first time I squeezed off a round. It was a weird sensation; huge fireball, crazy loud, but almost no felt recoil…
I might throw a light on this build, but I’m not sure that this rifle will ever get put into HD service. It’s a “fun gun”; and I want no part of this rifle without double ear pro on. lol. I’m in IL and we’re working on getting suppressors legalized. I’m gong to see how things shake out with that before I build a dedicated HD rifle.
