I always wanted to build a left handed AR, after shooting a lot of others. I am definitely glad to have the experience, and it will probably not be the last build. Not a tool my life depends on, but is a lot of fun at the range.

Just curious: Why the left handed AR (I know you said you’re a lefty, but so are a lot of other folks, and they use “normal” ARs)? Where you getting brass in your face? Or did you have issues operating the controls?
Or did you just want something different? I’m right handed, and even when I shoot an AR on my weak side, I don’t have issues with brass in my face, or have issues with the controls.
Not trying to grill you, just add some substance to the Custom Build subforum, which as of late has seen a lot of builds that are JUST a list of parts, without the REASON why the gun was built.
A little of both. I definitely didn’t care for the gasses exiting right in front of my face, but the controls were not much of an issue. I actually eneded up not using the ambidextrous safety I bought because I just didn’t like the fit of it, and I got so used to operating the safety with my left index finger that it wasn’t an issue. Also, I wanted to make it seem less expensive. Which of course it wasn’t:rolleyes:
I recently completed a lefty build. I didn’t know you had a choice in BCG’s. I went with Stag, are those spec.'s for a Stag arms BCG? also I decided to use a barrel with a right handed, standard, barrel extension. Stag uses an ambi extension. I have had zero issues so far.
I built this rifle for my brother who used a right handed rifle in the service in the 80’s. He also owns a standard AR. He decided to go lefty after buying a left handed BAR from Browning’s custom shop. He loved it so much he Bought a left handed 870, followed by another 870,due to the high price of left handed 870 barrels.
What my brother says is YES he can use a standard AR left handed. but why should he when you can actually build a true left handed rifle or better yet an actual ambidextrous one that ejects on the left like his?
If you opt for the plus package you get the m16 bcg, along with 1/7 twist, HP MP tested and some other upgrades. I was really surprised how fast Stag got the stuff to me (about 2 weeks) given everyone’s backlog recently.
I see, they don’t/won’t sell parts from the plus package only as complete rifle/upper. Are you going to do any ambi lower controls other than the safety, a extended bolt catch or ambi mag release?
