Hey everybody, my names Nick and I’ve been a long time lurker on this site and decided to put together my first gun. Heres what I came up with…
Upper
BCM Standard 16" Mid Length (LIGHT WEIGHT) Upper Receiver Group
With BCG and standard Charging handle
Magpul Mid-length Moe Hand guard
Magpul AFG 2
Magpul flip up rear
Lower
Custom Umlaut industries stripped lower (Concord, NH)
Daniel Defense LPK
Magpul polymer trigger guard
Magpul Moe Grip (dont like the seam on the miad)
Magpul BAD Lever
BCM Stock kit with H buffer
Magpul CTR Stock
Magpul ASAP Plate
Magpul MS2 Sling
I learned a lot on this site, watching other people build guns so i figured i would contribute and hopefully help someone.
heres all my gear for the build minus the middy moe and avg2 which i had to wait to be released.
BCM Upper
Thing went in easy and was SOLID. Really happy with it- worth the wait!
This custom lower was made in Concord, NH so i got to get it locally and paid 150 bucks-no transfer fee, shipping or taxes, love NH. Plus it had Nh’s state motto “Live Free or Die” which is pretty bad ass if you ask me.
Very nice build, sir. I agree, the NH lower is a neat touch.
As far as an RDS goes, there’s a nice bargain that is still very high quality. Grant at G&R Tactical sells an Aimpoint C3, with a American Defense mount for a very reasonable price. I personally like the one with the 2 MOA dot.
A bit more expensive, is a Aimpoint H-1 with a American Defense mount. Of course, Larue and Daniel Defense make excellent mounts as well.
I’m a big fan of the H-1, and own three, along with a C3. The H-1 lacks the night vision settings of the T-1, along with only being waterproof to 15 feet, vice 165.
But my paying job does not involve stepping off the back ramp of a C-130 at night, or locking out of a Virginia class sub.
You might want to look into a Surefire G-2 flashlight with a Viking Tactics light mount, as well. Not very expensive, and still quality at $60-70 complete.
First of all, I really like your build! It’s clean and no nonsense and looks good doing it.
Staking the castle nut can make a gun guy cry a little on the inside the first time they do it, but it is necessary for a reliable gun!
While I prefer the Aimpoint H-1 to other RDS and own 3, I find EOTechs a good alternative and own a 512. The EOTechs are a bit less with a different reticle, so you should try to take a look through both to see if you prefer one–or better yet use them for a little while at a range if any friends have them.
You may end up finding you want something with a lower 1/3 co-witness as opposed to an absolute co-witness with your iron sights. For me, an absolute co-witness is a bit annoying with a fixed front sight; some prefer it. Another good reason to try a couple different setups. You probably won’t get it right if you just buy an optic and mount based solely on recommendations–I know I didn’t.
You’re unnecessarily shortening the site radius of your gun by one notch in mounting it where you have it. It is meant to go on the very first notch of the rail. It doesn’t cover up my charging handles enough to prevent me from working them whether I use an extended handle like a BCM Gunfighter or not.
You’ve basically built the exact carbine I want to build, except I’d like to use a blemished BCM lower, BCM Gunfighter Mod4 CH, and a pinned BattleComp 1.5. Oh, and I’d like FDE accessories instead of all black. Everything else is literally exactly what I plan to build. Awesome stuff.
