My first AR15 build is officially in the bag. I’ve been piecing this together for the past year and just finishing assembling it. I’m of the “buy once, cry once” frame of mind so I decided that I’d rather have a longer build but do everything right the first time. I also wanted a gun that is more accurate than I am so that I can work up to it and not be limited by my gun. I still need to get a handstop, more ladder rail covers and some QD swivels but at least it’s in operating condition. Some day down the road I will probably get a 1-4 variable scope to throw on it.
I haven’t shot it yet but will be going to the range this weekend to begin the barrel break-in process. The only thing that has me slightly worried is the heavy buffer. Slash said that I would be fine and I only intend on running 5.56 through it so I’m hoping it will cycle fine.
I’ll update this weekend when I get back from the range.

I love this lower. The quality is amazing. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet but I’m sure I’m going to love the ambi bolt release.
The fit and finish on these receivers is impeccable. The gap is consistent all the way around, all the lines match up perfectly and there is no slop between the receivers. I can’t imagine that’s it’s possible to machine receivers any better than this.
I haven’t shot it yet but I really like the design of it. This gun is a little heavier than I was expecting so I’m glad I went with the UBR to help balance it out a little. It’s a little front heavy now so it would be that much worse with a CTR on it.
I just got back from the “range” and the gun functioned perfectly. I was single loading my mags because I was cleaning after every shot for awhile and it locked back on the empty magazine every time. Eventually I worked my way up to 10 rounds and it fed perfectly and locked back every time. I had been running American Eagle 5.56 up to this point and wanted to know how my heavy buffer would work with cheap .223. I really didn’t expect it to cycle properly but I shot about half a magazine of .223 and it worked great. I don’t know what size gas port Noveske uses but it looks like a 16" Noveske with mid-length gas system will work fine with a 6.5oz buffer.
I still need to get out to a real range to get it sighted in as it was a little too busy for me to be running around downrange.
I’m not sure that I actually accomplished anything, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t damage the barrel. I used a coated Dewey rod, JP Rod Guide and didn’t drag anything back across the crown. And I only cleaned after every shot until the fouling started to drop off, about 6 rounds in my case. If that’s enough to screw up a barrel these things are more fragile than I thought.
Very nice seems like Mega doesnt get enough credit for making excellent products. I’ve got the mid length mono rail with a 12.5 Noveske barrel that my favorite upper.
Very nice, I really liked the MEGA receivers before I got my Noveske, but I think I like the ones I got just a bit better. And from what I’ve seen so far, I’d believe the no break in thing. I’m not yet to the first 1000, but I don’t know how the rifle could be any better so far. Can’t wait to put it through a real test though.
Nice build. I love your part selections! I just received my MMS Monlithic Upper Mid from Rainier Arms and I just ordered a fluted Noveske Afghan from Werner Arms. I am really impressed with their owner, Brian Werner. I have a Young’s NM BCG as well. Can’t wait til I can get mine together to post too!
Nice Rifle.
Love those Mega Billet Monos.
I have three (2 in 223/556 and 1 in 308).
I even have a Mega made Zombie lower (forged) from Rainier.
Good stuff and great looking rifle.
I do think they are relatively unknown, but I also think that a lot of people that do know of them can’t figure out what the cost differential gets them. It’s pretty rare to find someone that knows about them, has the cash to spend on the premium, AND thinks the cost premium actually translates into results downrange that are worth the added weight.
Along those lines, I’m curious to know if anyone has a weight on their mono upper(s). Mega lists weights but they aren’t clear on what that includes if one wants to try to do a 1:1 with traditional parts.
