First build - 14.5" noveske

So I’ve finally gotten almost all the pieces to the puzzle.

I was looking for a simple build that is hopefully reliable, using well recommended parts, and hope that it will be close to as good as a factory build

Lower: noveske gen ii chainsaw
Trigger: geissele ssa
Buffer tube: vltor with vltor spring and carbine buffer
Stock: vltor imod pinned
Safety: bad-cass long/short
Lower parts: genuine colt from specialized

Optics: micro t1 with adm mount package from g&r

Upper: noveske (vltor) upper.
Barrel: noveske 14.5" low profile
Handguard: nsr 13.5"
Comp: pinned battlecomp 1.5

Light: haley strategic inforce thorntail offset package

Waiting on: noveske Troy flip up sights coming this week, and a wrench to tighten the castle nut

So since I’m supposed to describe why I went this way here goes

A lot had to do with looks and reputation reading. I love the look of the gen ii lower and noveske is known as a quality builder so I figured it was a good start. It always seemed like you couldn’t go wrong with a bcm, Daniel defense, noveske, or colt so that’s what I stuck with.

The lower parts seem to be self explanatory I guess.

The upper is where I guess the customization comes in. I live in nj. You cannot have a flash hider and you cannot have a threaded barrel. That pretty much requires a pinned compensator or a crowned barrel. Since I had to pin it anyways, I wanted 14.5". I didn’t see a point of 1.5" longer barrel if I was pinning a brake anyways. I also don’t like the feel of quad rails. I’ll take a keymod or even magpul moe front end any day. And I like the idea behind the keymod so I went with that. And I like the look of a long guard on a slightly longer barrel. I lucked out and found the exact complete upper in stock at tieronearms. So it was a no brainer. I had to have it. Especially with noveske not offering 14.5" barrels anymore

The only thing I notice is that noveske runs an H buffer in their guns with this build. I’ll probably research the different buffers and springs and figure out if I am missing something but for now I’ll throw in an h buffer and call it a day.

also have 1000rds of lake city 62gr and 500 rds of gold dot 64 gr coming. should hold me over for a bit

Nice build!

Question: You mention a carbine buffer in a Vltor buffer tube and Vltor spring. If this is a standard carbine length tube, buffer, and spring, then you are fine. If it is a Vltor A5 system, you will need the proprietary Vltor A5 buffer and a rifle length/Vltor A5 spring. Standard carbine buffers are not interchangeable with the A5 system as A5’s are a bit longer. Vltor designates their buffers H1, H2, H3, & H4, not “carbine”.

Just want you to be sure since this is your first build and you didn’t specify it as an A5 system.

I bought this stock kit. Actually from brownells. And I decided to go with the standard imod instead of the clubfoot that the kit came with. And I also used a colt castle nut. So the kit was kind of a waste. The spec sheet lists it as a carbine buffer though.

Thanks. I hope I bought wisely. And would love constructive criticism if anyone has some. I know I went mostly name brand and probably could have saved money but I figured these brands all had a good reputation

Nice build and good stock choice. The only part I could do without is the BC. Very loud and I can’t shoot next to one myself. I like them on a 16" so I can’t remove it if I want. You can’t run a FH though, I’m not sure what else is out there that is as quite as a regular FH.

Yeah. We are pretty limited. Most seem to go with the battlecomp or the pwc fsc556 which I think is a little too crazy looking. Recently there are a lot more options but I figured this would work.

Have you considered the BCM comp?

i honestly considered any Comp that was nj legal and available on the upper as i did not want to have to pay after. the battle comp was high on my list. is the BCM comp better than the Battlecomp for any reason in particular in your mind?

i am considering trying the bcm grip. i had to hand file the front tab on the tango down to mate to the lower. i may try the bcd mod 1 if i want the different angle as i am noticing that when i shoulder the rifle my hand twists a little funny

just weighed the buffer. 3.0oz so i assume its a standard “carbine” buffer. it is not marked anywhere that i can tell.

If the Brownells link you posted earlier is what you ordered you will be fine. Vltor A5 parts are clearly labeled as such, so it appears the buffer system you have is mil-spec.

Very nice build. I’ve been considering something similar but I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger on a Chainsaw lower. How’s the fit on that?

The fit on chainsaw lowers is perfect. The finish ranges from near perfect to rough.

I have two chainsaw lowers. This is a gen ii. There was one nick the size of the tip of a ball point pen. The other had a rough edge to the magwell that doesn’t make any difference in function that I can tell.

Nice build. I went very similar to yours last year with a Noveske gen2 with a genuine Colt LPK. Magpul MOE stock. Finished the lower and now I have to build an upper worthy of the lower. Again, very nice build you have there!!

ETA have you tried an Ergo grip? I have an LMT defender that has the nicest feeling grip of all my guns. I believe it’s an Ergo grip.

The only grips I’ve shot were an a2 and a miad. I’ve also held the tango down obviously. I bought the bcm to try as well. But I figure ill probably try these two before I learn what id like differently.
